How did I become the Poster Child for Spider Webs? LOL! That's a big spider. How big is it? I have many extended spider families in the garage but they're small spiders. Nothing scary. I never heard of 'ground spiders' or 'tunnel webs'..... (that's apt/condo living for ya!) How large is that spider? Is it to big to grab with a tissue or napkin and flush down the toilet (my method of catching them)?
now that is one scary looking spider. that would be a definite hunt-and-catch and i wouldn't go to bed till i succeeded.
my no-kill method is the plastic cup and postcard method. catch in cup against window/wall and slide card under.... then release outdoors.
if the critter is on the ceiling i talk it down the wall to where i can reach it. if that doesn't work, i use a little net scooper leftover from my goldfish tank cleaning days. when i do catch one in it, i usually have ample time to get outdoors while the spider investigates the feel of its new surroundings.
what are your methods? This message has been edited. Last edited by: bana,

It's web is just outside the sliding glass door I've not bothered it and it hasn't bothered me. I hope it catches lots of bugs!! Not going to kill it!! It is about the size of a fifty cent piece.

OMG I hate spiders. I had to scroll quickly by that picture. We have a "Bug Zooka". Very cool. Catches the spider & DH takes him outside. I won't kill them unless they corner me.
Pattie louise, we do have that "Stand Your Ground" Law in Florida. So it's ok when you get cornered. LOL!
Bana, I've never seen anyone "talk a spider down". I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when you did that....or no, maybe I would have got eaten by the spider!
OK ya'll know I'm just picking.
We have so many bugs and spiders around here, things that used to bother me don't any more. I constanly find frogs, lizards, millipedes, spiders and even a couple of baby snakes in the house. One thing I never see is roaches. Ya think the spiders are taking care of them?

Well zone9, I would gladly ship you some of these wood roaches. We have a super abundant supply this year due to all the rain! My cats aren't keeping the population down fast enough...nor anything else. These are the ones that die if they get in the house. I have found a few dead ones cause they will get in by getting on your clothes...especially at night.

LOL Karen, oh I see roaches outside in the oak trees..they just love those Live Oaks!
Just not those little PITA ones that usually live in the kitchen. I think the spiders eat them LOL! I don't like to spray inside the house because of the dogs. But I do spray around the perimeter of the house.

I use a very strong poison made by Spectracide. It's for termites but kills just about every insect. I pour it at the base of the slab, so it doesn't come into contact with my dogs. It stays in the soil, so I only do this once a year.
BTW spiders are pretty hard to keep away unless you directly spray the poison on them. I don't worry too much about them unless they are black widows or brown recluses.

thanks zone9alady. I was just wondering if there was something to spray around the porch to keep all the webs and insects away. We have to sweep and get rid of this stuff every time we want to sit on the porch. I feel like I'm sitting in an old house full of cobwebs. Good for Halloween, but I'm not decorating just yet.
