We were at a local theme park tonight (where the landscaping is awesome) and I've been drooling over the plants all summer. I finally got pics but need help IDing them. They are all low-growing "shrub" types. It was getting dark, so apologies for the pics.

#1...looks like a butterfly bush, but I don't think it is. Any ideas?

#2...looks like crape myrtle, but like #1, it was only about 2-3 feet high and wide.

#4 looks like a variety of St. John's Wort. There are several varieties of it.

Hi,Karen, thanks for the suggestion. That really looks close, but after zooming in on my pic, the flowers and leaves don't quite match. The leaves on the DKB look like they have spikey things and serrated leaves, mine doesn't. Unless there are other types of DKB that didn't come up on the search??

Ok, what about something in the mint family? I can't see the leaves in your pic very well so I'm just guessing.
And I know I've seen the one in your #3 pic but I can't remember where or when.

the dark knight bluebeard is a caryoptersis. I'm not an expert on Caryoptersis, but I have 3 of them and the first plant is NOT a caryoptersis.
To me it looks like a new variety of lantana called trailing lantana[at least, it's new to me]. that's what i thought it was at first, but the flowers are like a butterfly bush, only smaller.
shook29, google trailing lantana and see if this is your plant. it looks like it to me.

Think it might be the new dwarf butterfly bush? I have a Nanho Blue Buddlelia...Check that out.
Since this is such an interesting planting~~Why
not call the establishment & find out who did the plantings. Probably a great person to talk to & even get to know!!! Big Grin

well, my first thought on #1 is catmint. Both #2 & #3 look like dwarf crepes to me. Not sure about #4, but what about spurge? Kinda resembles mine.

Edited: Just was outside and looked at my Blue Mist caryoptesis, and I hate to disagee with you Barb, but the leaf shape and bloom formation does look a lot like mine. Big Grin

Thank you, ladies for the suggestions. But none seem quite right so far. The next time we go, hopefully this week sometime, I'll try to get better pics and close-ups of leaves and flowers.

The trailing lantana seems the closest so far for #1, but knowing lantana leaves, they are not the same. Are the trailing variety different from the annual variety?

VE, I'm wondering of those may be dwarf crapes?

Muddy, like your idea about finding the company who does the landscape. There are so many teens working there, I'll probably just get an eye roll if I ask. Roll Eyes

shook - Is there an information kiosk there? There might be someone to ask at info. How about the park's website? Companies are so eager to please their customers, that I'd bet they'd answer an email.

Thanks for posting the pics.

Well you all are certainly more experienced than I, so I'll take your word. Smile Thanks so much for helping. Might still try for better photos next time, though, not sure about the Caryopteris.

Sandybeach, Low and Behold is the closest yet. Haven't been back since taking those pics, but next time I go, I'll definitely see if someone can ID them for me. The only thing that made me think that it may not be butterfly bush, is that I didn't see any signs of old blooms. Mine hangs onto them until I cut them off!
