I have been growing my Wisteria Vine for about
eight years now. A few flowers presented themselves to us this year and last year but left quickly. This is the first year that we have had seed pods growing on it. I heard they are poisonous, are they poisonous to our Standard Poodles if they fell off? Do they fall off or should I cut them off once they dry and plant them in a pot next year? I have a friend that wants a start from the Wisteria and I have tried to grow her one from it but haven't succeeded. Could anyone tell me how to get a start from the Wisteria? Also, how soon will the seeds grow? I don't really want to start a new plant for my friend because he is in his mid 60's and it will take years to bloom. What is the fastest way to give him a start that will bloom within about four or five years or sooner? Thank you for taking your time to read my question. Sincerely, tamm0449

Tamm, usually most wisteria will have runners along the ground. If you can pull up one of these with some roots attached, give that to your friend for a "start". I've never gotten a start any other way. I've tried many, many times to root a cutting and they never take.
Yes, the seeds are poisonous! But I doubt that the dogs would eat them. You can cut the pods anytime just to get rid of them but if you want seeds, let them turn brown & start to twist...then cut them. If you let them twist open the seeds will fly all over...and grow!
I've never tried growing a seed as this stuff grows wild down here. You could probably try a google on how to start from seeds if you want to do that.
