My poor pathetic Asters. Too much water? We've had a lot of rain this late spring and these are at the bottom of our slope. O and it looks like maybe that mulch is too close to the stem, right?

Will they survive?

My Asters look exactly like yours, but we haven't had ANY rain since April, so I doubt yours is from too much rain. The tops look fine, so I think they are ok. Not sure what is making the bottoms turn brown though. Mine look like they are getting buds on them already, and it's only the first of July. They shouldn't be blooming until September. Everything is pretty much messed up anymore though. The plants are all confused.

Miss Kitty - thanks so much for your comments. That makes me feel better. I sure hope the brown leaves don't keep growing up and destroy the whole plant. My Veronicas are starting to do the same thing. Darn plants...enuf to discourage a gardener... Mad

SillyBird...How far back do you cut your Asters? I have heard of doing that, but have never tried it. I may give it a shot this year.

good idea; I think i'll cut back the one on the right by about 1/2 and see what happens. And maybe about 3" on the others.
