As to things eating day lilies...my mail lady gave me most of the ones I have. I had to go dig them was all. At that time I didn't really have any beds made so I put them all in a "holding area" near the fence with our neighbor w/horses. Well, the horses could reach my "area" when they bent the fence down. Tried to eat some of the day lilies...pulled them right out of the ground...and spit them out. Evidently, they don't taste so good, at least the green part. I know Indians used to roast the tubers & eat them...many years ago. I think they also sort of grated the tubers & added those gratings to things too...maybe to thicken?...can't remember for sure.

Mine are popping & have the same ones! I have a few more pink clumps tho! :>) The heat is so hard on them. I wish I had put more in part shade. Do you Jan?
Muddy, Some are in shade. It does protect the darker colors from fading out. They are all over the yard. Small yard could only support about 50 or so. Then they all started to look like ones I already had.
I have Avant Garde and it's a neat one! The hybridizer, Moldovan lived about 15 miles from here--Strutter's Ball is also his creation. you have a nice variety! My purples are fading this year with all the heat. I should haved saved some beach umbrellas a la muddy shoes!
