I haven't looked at the daffs but I have one iris with 2 blooms now open, leaves starting on one of the hydrangeas, and the Lady Banks thornless yellow rose has a few blooms popping. Also, the gold honeysuckle popped several blooms.
Guess I need to go walk around & see what else is happening.
And we are supposed to hit the 80's this weekend! Eek

Toots, my daffs are the same way and on the wild ones, I noticed several bloom buds. Also noticed that the hyciants and scilla are up a few inches.........and the silly red flowering quince is blooming!

We were hoping for a warm wet winter vs a cold dry one......so far so good.......but man are we ever going to be bug eaten this summer. I am still battling those disgusting asian lady beetles too. Even bombed the attic and although it helped a bit, they are still crawling everywhere.

Supposed to be in the 70's here this weekend too.

Z9 - we've only had a few days here and there of actual winter weather........so far, nothing sustained. Toots is correct in her predictions.....we usually get hit in late January thru mid February. In fact, our most recent snowfall was in 09, maybe 2010 I think and it was in March.......9 1/2 inches. A blizzard for us. The yankee friends had good laughs out of me over our blizzard.

I didn't walk far but yep, some of my daffs are up about that same 4 fingers. I also saw one day lily showing some green...just a tiny bit.
And a thrid bloom on that iris opened today.

If we get another cold spell...my plants will really be a mess.
We hit 79º today!

I'll enjoy pics of your daffs before mine even think about coming up with that 18" of packed snow above their heads. Another 2 months for me before I can think about spring. And that's fine with me. Big Grin

Even though we're wimps about winter down here, we do need some to help kill the mosquito population and to keep the plants in cycle. This up and down stuff just messes everybody up!!

Ok ladies, are you ready for this???????????

DH & I were out & about today...had some out of town errands to run in 2 different towns about 60 mi. apart. On the way home...

I SAW PEACH TREES BLOOMING!!!!!!!! IN JANUARY!!! Eek This is really going to be a mess if we get a freeze now. And there were paper whites going to town all over the country side.

I don't have daffy's, but I wanted to remove some of the dead, yellowed leaves from my Stella Day Lilies, and to my surprise, there were a bunch of brand new buds starting to pop out - in January. Not good! We are definitely going to get winter back again, before it's spring.
I am so sorry for the COLD SNAP in California. What gives?! I really hope your crops survive. We depend on you guys, cross your fingers!!!
That said, I am sooo happy to have this WARM SNAP. Counting the days till Spring Weather arrives....(in April usually) Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I walked the whole place yesterday...or rode my mower/tractor....I found a couple of blooms on my knockout roses and leaf buds on some things that shouldn't be budding yet, like the beauty berry bush. Even some of my lantanas haven't died back completely...still green leaves on them.

Toots, I noticed yesterday that mine are only about an inch up but with another day in the 50's today, that may change. As much as I hate the cold, I don't like these mild winters. Last summer was awful with the mosquitos and we were told it was because of the mild winter. It is weird about the West Coast too. Guess our produce prices will go up!!!

He Hee, so the weather man got it right this time. Temp started falling last evening...from 68 to 34 by 8 pm.......awoke this morning to 31 and there it stays for now...and the wind is brisk out of the nawth. Before the cold front moved through we had thunder, lightening, rain, hail and high winds and a brief power outage.

That poor wild daff has a bloom, the shastas are still green and I noticed the creeping veronica has a few blue blooms. I think we will need some sustained cold before these things go back dormant. Up and down just ain't cutting it. My friend Noonie in NY state said it was 54 there yesterday.......silly girl had the windows up. I guess if you are used to below freezing this time of year, 54 is like 74 for us. However, I'm not that thick blooded. Big Grin

Bummer about the fruit trees.....always a reason for grocery prices to go up!!!

I have a feeling that this winter is going to be a wild ride!

I saw a gorgeous pink hibiscus bloom this morning at the rec center. Couldn't believe my eyes. And the plumbago still has some blossoms on it. Its in the 70's outside now and we don't have any really cold weather in the forecast. I love these temps, but its certainly not good for things. I'm just happy to see some sunshine today. Was about to go nuts from the gray and dreary!

I have some daffodils that are up 4 inches--I need to put something over them since it's 30 here today. Guess that I didn't plant them deep enough and the warm temperatures got them going. It's cold here today so I better get them done soon.

hey, Paws.... don't fret it.... they're used to the cold and covering them isn't needed... they'll just slow down or come to a stop with the early growth when it gets really cold....

Thanks Toots! I still have some evergreen boughs so maybe I will put them gently over the daffs that are up. Years ago I would run around and cover all of the growth when we had a late spring freeze. That was silly! It is strange to think that they are coming up in January though, the temperatures have really changed.

While I was out cleaning up my beds today, I noticed that my earliest daffs had 3 buds up! And we are supposed to get down into the 20s next week at night!
And I just planted 46 daffs on Sunday! They were marked down to 75% off, couldn't resist! Big Grin They could use some rain but it looks like it's all going north of us.
