Is it too late to winter sow? I just need something to do instead of shoveling snow.

I don't think it too late. With our past years drought here and prediction of another dry year, I personally would not waste the seed, unless I was more sure to get moisture in the soil at and after germination time.

Not here in New England it's not. But in the past have put containers on porch and they get covered with snow. At present there's so much snow on the back porch I probably wouldn't be able to find them till June! LOL

Me Me!! I did 6 jugs of my heirloom tomato seeds yesterday. Then I did 3 jugs of pepper seeds - cayanne and habernaro. I still have more tomato seeds to do...had planned on doing that today but got waylaid with other things. Maybe next week. ve

ok, vera ellen, you're inspiring me. Do you have some pics for us? How many seeds do you put in each jug? Do your heirlooms germinate pretty good? Wondering what to sow. Is it worth it to do annuals? This message has been edited. Last edited by: nance425,

Nance, I'm sorry. Just now checking in and reading. No pictures, but I can do a tutorial if you'd like...the next time I sow some seeds. To answer your questions.....I put between 6 and 8 seeds per milk jug...maybe more if they are stuck together and then thin out once they germinate. I just leave the seeds on the paper towels that I let the seeds dry on, then use scissors to cut around them...place paper with the seed side down on the soil. Yes, heirlooms start very easily. Here it's not worth it to do annuals because we warm up so quickly. That being said I am going to sow some dahlia seed just for grins to see how they do. Someone else on the board did it with geranium seeds and had great success. So I wanna experiment a bit. ve
