I'm feeling a little happier now! 1. I took off the holiday lights outside and put them away last week. (no one else did yet) 2. The sun is shining brightly and it almost looks like spring. (it's 35 deg., not quite!) 3. The DAYS ARE GETTING LONGER!!! 4. I went to Lowes yesterday and I was the only one in the Garden Center!!! I bought Seed Starting Mix and a bag of Vermiculite. The Seed Starting Mix always lasts me several years and it's not expensive ($4.29) I really like it for starting seeds indoors. I am going to try WINTER SOWING in about a week!!! Anyone else do winter sowing? Is it too early for Annuals Should I plant them a little later on? (like Petunias, for example) HAPPY NEW YEARS PEOPLE!!!! SPRING HAS F I N A L L Y SPRUNG!!!!!

hold off on the annuals.... they don't do that good in winter sowing....those plants that do the best are those that would do it 'naturally'... those that would drop seeds that would lay there allwinter and pop into plants come spring..... not a lot of annuals do that...mostly perennials......save the annuals to plant six weeks ahead of when you want them in the ground.... you got a place inside to start them?..... love being the only one in the garden center... I can imagine that the tables full of pretties are my garden!!.. LOL!!.... you stay happy, Wavy.... all it takes is a little sunshine around here, too... "Gardening Keeps Me Growing!"

Wavy, I like your attitude and your post! A little sunshine (same here) makes a whole lotta difference. Good advice from Toots regarding the annual winter sowing. The only things I wintersow anymore are my heirloom tomato seeds. It's too early for them as well. Will wait until mid to late February on them. Petunia seeds are difficult for me......so I do better to just buy a couple of six packs each year. Have never had any luck with sowing them. For the tomato seeds, I mix half seed starter and half potting soil.....if I'm short on seed starter, I've used just plain potting soil and had good results. Have fun with your project! ve
