I need a new liquid laundry soap. I was using a brand carried by Trader Joes for a while. They stopped carrying it so I've been using the Trader Joes brand. I'm not that happy with it.

We have a top load washer so HE isn't a consideration. I'd prefer something I can purchase locally rather than have to mail order.

Anyone using something they're happy with?

    (I have a front loader).

I have had excellent results with Seventh Generation HE free & clear. Works well, and no one in my family is allergic to it. I am able to buy it at K****r (grocery).

I use Method Home and usually find it at Target. They have the regular version and the HE version. I like it.

Thanks to all for your replies.

stormmom, truthfully I'm just not up for another project. Wink What you described though sounds like the powder detergent I've seen talked about here. Do you add water to make it a liquid?

Eliz and Jo, I've seen good reviews for both products you've mentioned. I think what will probably drive my purchase at this point is whatever store I'm going to be shopping at next time detergent is on the list (should be within the next couple of weeks).

eliz, thanks so much for the mention of allergies. That's an issue for both of us.

Toomuch I use the Seventh Gen free and clear too...but like the Ecover liquid a bit better, has a subtle plant scent...Whole Foods carries both, many smaller health food stores carry Ecover....I have bought in bulk (6 bottles) online with free shipping for reasonable price from Amazon...seems they were out last week but...) Try one til you find one you like then stock up when you find a good price. Whole Foods had a large bottle that was 2X 50oz on sale for $9.99 this past few weeks...of Seventh Generation both in free and clear and scented versions. Happy Shopping... Cool

Thanks to all for your helpful replies.

I've just picked up a bottle of the 7th Gen 2X in the bergamot scent. I think we've used that one before.

I think when I'm out of this, I'll pick up a bottle of the Ecover at Whole Foods to test drive it.

The last time I used the 7th Gen, the 2X wasn't available. I have to admit to being a bit shocked at the price. It is a 50oz bottle which says it does 64 loads. Price was $14 The much larger bottle not concentrated is about $9.99 as you noted GA. I do realize the product in the bottle is different (most likely less water) but the container is able to be smaller and there is less to transport. I just dont' GET why it's almost 50% more in price.

I do think once I find one to settle on, I'll look for the sales and stock up.

I use Ecos. They sell it at all of the health food stores and at TJ's, but I buy it at Costco. I really like it!!

I have tried a couple but I mixed this one up and it works great!

    1 quart warm water

1 teaspoon liquid soap (I used Dr. Bronner's unscented)

    1 teaspoon Borax

    1/4 cup white vinegar.

I also added some essestial oil, Lemongrass too. Even without scented oil it has a clean smell to it, no vinegar smell and it does work really well!

Oh - good though about Costco jayhawk.

I'm not sure what our local health food store carries. I haven't checked simply because they do tend to be outrageously expensive.

Re: the TJs - our local TJs has stopped carrying any liquid detergent brand except their own. It may have been Ecos I was using before that I got at TJs. I couldn't remember what brand it was. When they stopped carrying it, I switched to the TJs brand and just don't like it.

Pebbles - thanks for that recipe! Some of the other recipes I've seen looked good but made GINORMOUS amounts or just seemed to be a huge time investment.

I have everything except the Borax. I've been reading some really interesting input about it here so have been thinking about picking some up. I may well give this one a try when I'm in need again.
