Hi. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows whether it is sufficient simply to cover a vinyl floor (which emits fumes over its lifetime) or old paint (which emits VOCs) with a new green product.

Does the new product stop the emissions or do you have to completely remove the old source? I'm thinking with paint this will be difficult. Flooring I'd just rip out, but I'm renting and it would be much easier to cover the vinyl floor with a new layer of linoleum or other product.

Other suggestions appreciated as well. I have severe allergies and am doing all I can, but am new to the subject. Thanks!

dewelsh, I just saw this and thought I would bring it back up hoping someone would be along to help. I really don't know the answer but your local store, who supplies your new flooring etc. might be able to give you a good answer.

Doesn't paint emit VOC until it dries? If it's dry there's shouldn't be any volatile compounds in it. You don't need to paint over.

Have you talked to the landlord about ripping the floor out?
