Does anyone own a Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine? Thinking of purchasing the 4.5 cu ft ultra capacity plus washer (energy star). What do you like or dislike about it.

I am not in the market for a washing machine. But I have one piece of advise- Do not buy appliance made by Bosh. I had a washing machine. It was very noisy and the clothes did not get clean. I will never purchase anything made by them again. They have a great reputation which I feel is unwarranted.

Rascal, give me a couple days to check in with my neighbor. She has a whirlpool C-something that has been NOTHING but problems. I just can't remember if it is the Cabrio or the Calypso.

You know how some appliance companies will let you buy extended warranties a few months after purchase? This product is SO BAD that they won't offer that.

As soon as I can confirm which machine it is that she has, I'll let you know.

edit: Just looked at photos and epinions reviews. The one neighbor has is Calypso. Bad BAD news.

On epinions, the cabrio seems to have average reviews - but not a lot of them. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. At least you know to consider yourself warned against the Calypso.

My 2 cents....I have had my Bosch front loader for over a year and it is VERY quiet. My clothing is wonderfully clean and it is energy star with self heating unit built in. These are all made in the USA...North Carolina. Most other companies are all made in C h i n a....my sister had a Calypso and had many problems with odor due to the way it drained internally or something...

I had a whirpool in our last home.. and lets say i''m glad we moved to our new home so I could get rid of that horible washer.. I would never ever buy an other whirlpool washer or dryer. never had any issues with there fridge.. the stove was not to good .

By the way I have a bosch smoothtop convection slide in stove and we love it no issue and great service as well.

Whirlpool appliances typically score on the high end for reliability on Consumer Reports user surveys. I had an Amana side by side refrigerator I gladly left for the new owners of our last home, loudest refrigerator I've ever owned. Ice maker filler tube kept freezing up on it as well.

Bosch are considered high end appliances, but even Bosch can put out a lemon once in a while.

We didn't buy Bosch front loader/dryer because the two of us don't need all the features offered. Other than that, we would have bought Bosch in a minute. Our Bosch dishwasher is wonderful; can't praise it enough. Quietest on the market and has the safety tray with water sensors beneath it. That feature alone sold us on Bosch. An undetected leak can lead to thousands in repairs (it's happened).
I agree; anyone can make a lemon, but Amana does seem to make more than other mft. (Amana is no longer mft. under that name; taken over by Whirlpool.) Frigidaire/Electrolux mft. Kenmore. Maytag was bought by Whirlpool. It's getting to the point that we don't have much of a choice anymore.
Appliance problems (and they are getting worse because so few are mft. in the USA) are best dealt with by paying perhaps a bit more but dealing with an independent dealer whose reputation relies on customer satisfaction because word-of-mouth can be damaging or productive.

Kenmore appliances are made by several manufacturers. Their front loaders are rebranded Whirlpools.

Whirlpool owns Maytag and Amana

GE owns Hotpoint

Electrolux owns Frigidaire

I've had good luck with Whirlpool, owning a dishwasher, 2 refrigerators and the Duet front loading washing machine. I haven't been impressed with Amana (pre-Whirlpool) and GE appliances the dishwasher that came with our current house died while under warranty (bad control board) and the racks rusted prematurely. I replaced it at 7 years.

Consumer Reports rates several LG models as very good or excellent washers - most meeting Energy Star guidelines AND getting the clothes very clean. I am in the market for both a washer and dryer, and LG is what I will buy, after doing my research. Just waiting for a sale! LOL!!

I have a LG microwave and am verry happy with it. Verry durrable! has withstood 2 PPL sticking my silver trimed dishes in it and turning it into a spark fest and DS stuck a corn dog in it during a moment of independence and burned it till smoke came out of hte microwave... still works like a charm (though slightly smoke stained) Wink
