Does anyone know what design program they use for that show?

I think it might be Home Design Studio for Macintosh.

Is there another program to use? I don't want to invest to much up front until we know if this can be done. We have a ranch home and it just seems that the house is backwards as to room placement. We aren't sure where to start to see if things can be rearranged to suit us better.

Hi, Etta, maybe someone who is more familiar with these programs can help you. Sorry!

This was posted back on June 5 2007 in a thread on the favorite shows board:

"I am the Series Producer for Hidden Potential and would like to clarify this issue of the computer program used on the show.

Our design team mainly uses 3-D Studio Max to model the designs that our on-camera designers come up with. Various lighting programs are also used in conjunction with 3-D Studio Max to make them look more realistic.

Please note that this software is designed for design and architecture professionals, not for the novice designer.

There are other software options on the market that might be more user friendly but I personally have never tinkered with these products.

Thanks for the inquiries and keep watching!!"

I believe that Better Homes does a few home design software programs. You can search Amazon. From what I've heard they are the most user friendly. Google has a free one called Sketchup but I found it hard to use. Regardless of the program, you're probably not going to get a rendering that appears like what you see on TV.

I couldn’t help but wonder myself which program was being used. I use Cadsoft with an (Autodesk engine) to do 3D drawing. This drawing is used to do the working drawings by cutting sections that are displayed in 2D or by showing a 3D view of the interior or exterior of the house with a camera built-in to the program. The camera gives you the option of x,y,z location for the camera, the lenses setting and target location which also has an x,y,z location. The lenses helps you control the distortion of the perspective view just like a real camera.
