I live in a 45X80X17 Quonset Hut home and we are wanting to remove the living areas we have created and start over. Problem is we need ideas and images to see what could be done. What would you do?
There are thousands of floor plans on the internet. You can even find some for your dimensions (or approximate). They work with various roof styles and you will have to see what works for you and your curved roof. It would at least give you an idea of space planning.

You live in a Quonset hut? Where in Texas are you located? Is it in a neighborhood or do you live in the country? I'm just curious. I've never know anyone to live in a Quonset hut...voluntarily that is.

We have 20 acres outside of town and originally built is as a temporary home with plans to build a house, but have recently decided it would be more economical for us to do a complete remodel instead of a new construction. We are in the panhandle about mid-way between Oklahoma and New Mexico.
TexasTeacher, Since I know absolutely nothing about Quonset Huts or viable renovation plans for them, I did what I usually do - entered it into a search engine (Google) in this case and was surprised at the number of hits that came up!
Seems like you are not the only one thinking along these lines and looks like others have already come up with some pretty good ideas. Check them out and let us know which ones are possibilities.
I know you were hoping for some first-hand experiences BUT, if you post back some ideas that architects have already vetted, I have no doubt that you will get a number of posts re whether or not those plans are workable!

Being from New England, I know what a Quonset Hut is, but when you said Texas, I was floored! Cannot imagine how it could be cooled sufficiently for Southern climes?!
I'm assuming there are windows along the sides? I'd start with an online floor planning site...they're lots of fun to play with. Enter all the "givens" such as windows, walls that must stay, plumbing areas that can't or won't be moved and then have at it. If that seems too daunting, then just start sketching. "Feel" your way through...what's working now, what's not, how does your family live in your space, does open concept appeal or are you looking to create more privacy.
I realize that some people have a difficult time imagining space and drawing might be a foreign language, too...I hope you're not one of those!
