I recently watched an episode of the above mentioned show. A family (who seemed very nice) moved to Hawaii from Alaska with 6 kids and one on the way. How does one afford to move from Alaska w/all those kids, to the most beautiful places in the world. Move into a $500,000 house with all the family on a salary of selling used cars? I don't get how these people do it. They home school and the kids seem to love the beach etc. Is this for real or just another made up dream that some writer thought up. If they are a real family and are doing this kudos to them. I am just barely making it and I have one kid. Would like some other opinions... Thanks

Well, minihorse1, I do hope you realize that it is a TV show and most of it is staged so, no, it's not reality but some people might actually be able to do it....

Just keep on the path you are on, your child is lucky to have a dedicated parent and, little by little, you will make it better year by year. Good luck! Cool

PS. Your post might get more responses if you re-post in the "Fan Favorites Forums" - this one is part of the "nitty-gritty" real estate boards for responses to real estate situations that are real; not made-up situations....

When I read your post, I had to look/see if my avatar was there because you said almost exactly what I was thinking!!! They would have to have a huge trust fund or SOMEother income!!! ...or he's one Heck of a Salesman!!! I don't know...they seemed wayyyyyy to calm for those children to be theirs ') But, maybe I'm just jealous! LOL

BTW, I lived in Hawaii years ago and milk was $7/gallon then!!!

But, you know what they say: "Truth is stranger than fiction!"

You have to remember that Alaska is not exactly a cheap place to live. They may have most of the money from the sale of their prior home. I don't think it is phoney.

I think it's probably realistic - if he is in marketing and is really good, he can make alot of money, and I agree with metwo - probably got a bunch when they sold their house...... what a nice change though - cold, cold ,cold to Hawaii..... Smile

I watched the episode too and their family was like any other family who moves to Hawaii from where ever they are, whether it be Alaska or from the Lower 48. They probably saved their money to be able to afford to move! I'm in Anchorage, Alaska and the cost of living is high but probably not as high as Hawaii.

My problem with the show was that they only said they were buying the one they picked and didn't show them moved in. I much prefer to see the inside of the house when they moved in to see what changes they have made - like a regular House Hunter episode.
