Never have had one, but thinking about getting one, and so I am curious what others here might think of them and if you have one you like (or hate) will you share info?
I have one and have to admit that I rarely use it. I bought it be able to make my own carrot juice. But now that Bolthouse Farms brand is available, it is just as good as what I can make, so I never use it.
I remember my aunt getting on a juice kick when I was a child-thats where I learned to love carrot jice. But she got over it and never used it any more.
Thanks for responding Becky. I want to think I will use it, so I wanted to get one that would be worthy, not break easily and be fairly easy to clean?
So many processed foods with unhealthy additives, have me wanting to make not only more nutrient rich juices, but also use the vegetable pulp in soups too.
I have an old Juiceman juicer which works just fine after at least 20 years. While I don't use it daily, it has gotten a HEAVY workout.
I bought my sister a Champion, but the cleaning isn't any easier.
Just get the features you want.
For cleaning, do NOT soak the mesh screen thingey. Clean it as soon as you are done under running water and a toothbrush. Takes all of 15 to 30 seconds. Max. If you soak it, the food particles absorb the water making it even harder to clean the mesh.
In addition to juices and pulp, check out Heidi's post below, AND be sure to check the comments out for even more ideas. Great article, great comments.
Thanks for the info, Indexlady. Seems the individual units are all a bit different to clean, but most seem to say just run parts under water (use brush if necessary on screen) and towel dry.
Reserved some juicing recipe books at the library too.
So many choices on brands and models, seemed mixed reviews on all, so I just took the plunge. Got a Cuisinart CJE1000. Seemed the mid range, and had 30 percent off the sale price at Kohls. (If I buy locally, at least I can more easily return it.) Shopped around and stocked up on vegetables and some fruit today...will try it out tomorrow. Hope this was not a mistake?
