We decided to have a clambake in our yard. I was inspired to do this by Anne Mahle who with her husband runs windjammer cruises off the coast of Maine. She also writes a cooking column in our local paper.
DD and her family are here for a week and we are having perfect weather, lobster prices are low so here goes nothing!
I bought lobsters, clams, mussels, and shrimp. Made another batch of haddock chowder (heating up in crock pot) and shrimp for appetizers. Also peanut butter ice cream which is sinfully good!
We are going to do the lobsters in a galvanized tub over a charcoal fire. They are covered with seaweed to hold heat in. Wish us luck!
P.S. I don't know why they call it a clam bake as the main ingredient is always lobsters and they are steamed not baked!
Sounds like way too much fun to not invite ALL your close cyber-friends!
So after you get through practicing on family - gather another batch of ingredients and give us a holler!!This message has been edited. Last edited by: KeepYouInStitches,
Perhaps they are clam bakes becuse they start with large amounts of clams, corn on the cob, and other foods including lobsters, mussels, potatoes and onions cooked in a pit in the sand at the beach.
In your locale lobsters are plentiful thus your take on them is different. Down Maryland way clam boils /clam bakes are somewhat divergent from what you describe. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Lurah,

Funny, we just watched that Elvis movie last night
My DH was in the army with Elvis and they put th em back to back to see who was taller for a parade (DH was) he has also sculpted Elvis for a fan club here.
O.k. We had our clam bake (or boil!) (Started with chowder. DGS is never far from a writing implement. . . note portable typewriter!)This message has been edited. Last edited by: lady of shallot,
DGS had quite a bit of trouble with the tail to the amusement of his sister! Actually I got a little sick of "picking" lobsters since we had three extra ones and needed to get them done so that we could discard shells asap. You do not want lobster shells hanging around! This message has been edited. Last edited by: lady of shallot,
