Happy New Year Everyone. I am planning a 60th Wedding Anniversary Celebration for my parents. The location (church) and the menu is planned. We have someone catering and making a cake. I need ideas for a cake topper and also for simple arrangements for the tables. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Georgia Peach, What a wonderful event you have coming up ~ I remember well how my parents enjoyed the 50th Anniversary party that we did for them!
It was a sit-down dinner (prepared by us - not catered) for 150 people at an old-time Grange Hall like the one where they met with a band from their era for the dance afterward. But one of the things everyone liked best was the paper table mats I created.
I copied the front page of the local newspaper on the day they were married from microfilm at the local library, glued a COPY of their wedding portrait on it, added a little blurb about their wedding so it looked like it was part of the front page and then ran black and white 14"x17" paper copies on a regular copier. Everyone loved reading their "table-mat" and seeing what was going on in the world that exact day 50 years earlier when they were married.
Of course, that was before the days of computers and such; probably be even easier to do the same thing now with technology but the way I did it still works.... This message has been edited. Last edited by: Idaho Resident,
I think IR had a great idea for placemats. And if they had a church wedding, the kind of flowers in the bridal bouquet or attendants bouquets for the centerpiece -- small vases of flowers --it doesn't need to be huge! As for a cake topper, I would go on ebay and see if I could find a bride and groom topper from 60 years ago.
Find a nice picture of them on their wedding day and take it to Walgreens or a place like that and the can do a cardbourd cutout to stand on top of the cake. My cousins did this and it was a big hit. They also had the decorator make the cake like the original wedding cake and had a picture beside ie it. One more fun thing they did was in the invite they asked for people to send a picture,memory or story of the bride and groom ahead and put thm in a book that was at the party. They told some of the funnier, better stories.
Thanks. I like all these ideas. IR, your parents' celebration was quite an occasion. Our parents celebration is more of a 2 hour reception at their church. I still like the idea of the placemats or something similar. Linderhof, I actually have check on e-bay for a vintage cake topper but with no luck. I got the idea when you posted your angel tree topper. Rose1_MA, I am going to share your idea with my sister about the cardboard cutout. We already have a plan for a memory book. Thanks for all the suggestions. I may be back with more questions. You ladies just can't imagine how helpful you have been to me on this board
I have seen old pictures used for the cover of invitations, etc. I like using it for the cake topper. I also like the idea of getting a small bunch of flowers for each table, using some of the kinds that were used in her original bouquet. If she didn't have one, then I would use her favorite flower if possible.

When my DB/DSL had their 50th wedding anniversary, their kids asked all of those attending to check their photo albums/photo stashes for possible pictures of the two of them...at some point in the past. It is so easy for many to scan photos,crop them, enhance and enlarge them some...it was fun for all to see pictures they had no idea were out there. They were placed in sheet protectors and added to a 3 ring binder.
There are a couple of places online that make custom bobble-head dolls. You just email them a picture or two and they'll send you back a proof of what the dolls will look like. How about actual wedding pictures from 60 years ago becoming a bobble head cake topper?

I did see most of those toppers but just couldn't find THE ONE! I have decided to use flowers for the topper. We are going with what's blooming in the area, mainly irises and camellias, plus amaryllis and calla lilies. Thanks for your help.

We did this for their 50th and are adding pages to it. It's so special to see a picture that you didn't have And at the 50th we didn't have our own scanners we used a photo shop at a BIG price. Much easier this time around. Thanks for your reply.

This would have been a fun idea CS. I've decided on a topper but am going to google and see what I find This idea would be great for a birthday too.

We did an 80th BD for DMIL a few years back. I asked for photos and a friend scanned them and then added music clips to them. We rented the AV projector/screen from a local vendor and played them during the party. It was such a wonderful memory for her and the guests. We also made her a scrap book of the pics and included letters and cards that people sent.
One thing that I wanted to do was take a group photo of all the guests but we missed that shot. Write out an agenda/time-line for your own reference. It's easy to forget that special something with all the other duties of hosting. Allow time so others may tell of their special memories if they like.
A recent 50th Anniversary had a place set up where they took pics of the couple with each guest/couple/family. It made a nice memento to send each guest after the party.

Thanks Beau's Rose. I have made some notes to give to our photographer for certain pictures to be taken. She is a good friend of mine and is familiar with most of the family and guests who will be attending. We are very thankful that our parents are able to celebrate this occasion. I'm look forward to watching them enjoy themselves.
