It's almost New Year's Eve -- and it's either first or a close second in being a "finger food" day (Super Bowl is the other).

What is your favorite appetizer -- either to make or to eat?

I know my DH's is wings -- true Buffalo wings made with butter and hot sauce and served with blue cheese dressing and celery.

For me on an appetizer buffet, I always go for the dish that is made from cream cheese -- cheese ball or spread with crackers.

Of course, DH could eat the WHOLE serving of wings and I know I couldn't eat a whole cheese ball!

I often make either a cheese ball or a curry/chutney dip when I bring something to a party.

I am right there with you on the cream cheese goodies!

For our holiday gatherings this year, I tried making bacon wrapped dates for the first time. Just a date stuffed with an almond and wrapped with bacon. Bake until bacon is done.
I thought they were pretty good but most people didn't eat more than one.

One of my favorite appetizers is to take won ton wrappers and fill with any kind of thick dip or spread (about a teaspoon) seal the edges, brush with olive oil, and bake until wrappers are lightly browned. A good way go serve a dip without the "ick" factor of everyone digging around in the same bowl.

Mini muffin sized spinach quiches are also a favorite of mine.

What a fun thread. Asking me to choose my favorite appetizer would be like asking to choose a favorite child. Smile Love 'em all.

But, if forced to choose, I'd say hot artichoke spinach dip, the kind loaded with Parmesan cheese. And, it must be served with Pita crisps. (swoon)

My homemade hummos with loads of vegetable crudites and Pita crisps is a close second.

I'm with Aychihualua on the spinach artichoke dip, with a huge nacho dip(make mine without sour cream) or shrimp a close second. DH isn't as easy to please - either a chili cheese dip or meatballs. My favorite party to give is a cocktail party where I can put out a big variety of hot and cold appetizers. Reminds me, need to make something for a happy hour party we are going to late tomorrow afternoon.

So hard to choose a favorite, and all of the above are favorites, but one thing I really like is de.vil.ed eggs. Simple, ordinary d.evi.led eggs.

Appies are one of my favorite food groups! Big Grin I can easily make a meal of them and really cannot decide which is my favorite so will just list the ones that come to mind first: mini pastries such as tortieres and quiches, anything with smoked salmon on it, crudites with various dips (especially those with sour cream and garlic), mini garlic cheese toasts (when I'm lazy that's what I serve at home for the family), d.evi.led eggs, spiced nuts, mini meatballs with a spicy dip, stuffed mushrooms.

While I do love many types of dips when I am a guest I prefer appies that can be eaten with one hand and no messy communal dips. At home with a small family group I usually provide separate bowls so each person can have their own bowl of dip.
