Actually, Lady of Shallot is doing just fine. I'm sure that she was affected as we all were by the tragedy in Shady Hook BUT that has nothing to do with the fact that she has stopped posting.
She made the choice to stop posting after a series of very cruel posts by a particular person who suggested that LOS was in need of mental health treatment, etc. Comments were made in her thread entitled "Why?" in the general decorating forum. It was only one person and many other came to her defense but I completely understand LOS's feelings.
When someone starts dogging your every post and nipping at your heels all the way, no wonder some people choose to take the high road and not respond. Myself, I have always enjoyed LOS's posts and am sorry when the rest of us don't stand up when a valued poster is being targeted ~ I didn't see that particular thread or you can be assured that I would have had something to say about personal attacks by ignorant posters...
Just my two bits ~ guess that isn't enough anymore to make a phone call. Oh, wait, everyone has smart phones today so guess it was a really bad example.
Bottom line, a poster went way over the top and beyond the pale with a personal attack on LOS which was not warranted. Hope that poster feels good about being cruel ~ the rest of us have her number....
LOS, See, you are missed! Hope you decide to come back!

I miss her contributions and hope she knows I am thinking of her.

That's sad she was hurt by anyone... (((LOD)))

Ugh. So sorry to hear of this. Let's be good to each other.

She had mentioned in an old post abt the Conn tragedy is why I thought that was the reason.I'm sorry if I hurt anyones feelings.I enjoyed her posts and was trying to figure out a reason she quit posting.Again I am sorry if I misled anyone and I don't like for anyone to get hurt on these message boards as I sure enjoy all the post.Idaho I enjoyed your Ha ystack stories so much I read them to my young grandson and he enjoyed them too.lol

I really miss Lady of Shallot. She was always a great contributor to this board. She had well thought out, strong opinions on many topics which I loved. She also was willing to share pictures of her home and her life which made her posts super interesting. She inspired me, and got me thinking, and she was fun. I would love it if she came back.

Arkansas #1, Please don't give another thought to the possibility that you contributed to any hurt feelings caused by others - you didn't. Instead, you posted a caring response with which many of us agreed and I'm sure that LOS appreciated it.
Have to say that I'm glad both you and your grandson enjoyed the Haystack stories ~ I did, too! Might be some more on the way one of these days...

I miss LOS as well, but I followed the whole thread and I didn't think any of the posts were as bad as has been suggested. When you ask "Why?", you have to be prepared for answers you might not like. LOS seems to think that her posts were not getting enough replies. Her posts always received a lot more replies than many other forum members (certainly more than mine do), so I thought she was being overly sensitive to start the thread to begin with.

You obviously "missed" one of the posts -- which has since been deleted -- I am sure because the offending poster didn't have the g*u*t*s to ride out the backlash. Shame on her for a) publicly humiliating the OP and b) for NOT publicly apologizing. She was way out of line. It was a personal attack and had nothing to do with the OP's original question.
ETA: We all know, from previous posts, that LOS is a strong, thick-skinned, intelligent woman and for her to stop posting was not (coud not have been) because of some trivial opposing viewpoints expressed on decorating. This message has been edited. Last edited by: MyLifeVacation1,

I miss LOS too.
Not necessarily on any of her posts - but could have been - I sometimes (many times) post - that's not how I do "that" or how I think or... - but it is never in any way intended to put down any other poster's opinion, regime, technique, etc. It's merely another way to do things. I am highly opinionated. Have you guessed that?
(However, I do feel that if you have pets, part of responsible pet ownership is making certain that the pet - cats included - are not free-roaming or ONLY you yourself is responsible for attacks on said pet by other animals, being run over on the street, irritating your neighbors. Yep...one person took major exception to my views. I have no pets, yet have probably 8-10 LARGE dogs on my property DAILY leaving stinky 'gifts' to be stepped in. We cannot slip off a pair of dirty shoes or leave a door mat outside - they disappear.)This message has been edited. Last edited by: KeepYouInStitches,
Perhaps I DID miss the post. It must not have been up for very long.

To Lady of Shallot, Please post again and let us know that you are fine. The unhappy posters will always be here, but we need all the good, happy, people like you posting.

Wow, I hadn't realized that LoS was missing. Shame on me for not being more observant. I've got quite a few LoS recipes in my 13 binders of recipes that I won't live long enough to try!!
And I don't think I ever saw the offending post--at least, I have no conscious knowledge of it. I agree that LoS was a wonderful contributor and hope that she will consider returning to this forum.
This forum has shrunk considerably from when I joined it in 1997. It used to be as busy as the quilting/needlework board is today. And that's sad!

I don't comment on here much, I lurk more than anything and definitely opt to stay totally out of any fights or disagreements, however, I did see the post to LOS and I do have to say that it was VERY mean and offensive. I've always enjoyed LOS posts and pictures and I also miss having her on here.

I looked back to find the last time Lady of Shallot posted and I thought I found it was Christmas time. Wasn't a family member expecting twins? If that event has happened, that could be the reason we haven't heard from LOS.

The infraction did not occur on the food and entertaining message board, but it was on another board also sponsored by HGTV. For those of us on this particular thread, do not worry, as you were not the offender.

Sometimes as sad as you feel, you must stop posting. I understand now why LOS has left us. I intend to do the same. I have managed without intent to make most posters here unhappy or I just plain aggravate them. It is sad for me because I have always enjoyed the recipes and laughs. I understand though, posting takes a fine art in order not to ruffle feathers, and as in life, there is pecking order.

flboy, don't ever feel that you are making posters unhappy. There are a few posters who are very sensitive and have taken offense multiple times from many posters. One of these poster's doesn't realize that their own posts are inflammatory at times. If I ever sounded as if I was upset with you because I explained why understood someone was upset I apologize. You have never upset or aggravated me. Your contributions are always enjoyed by myself and others. I too understand about ruffling feathers because I have unintentionally done so myself. Please don't stop posting.
Mar 09, 2013, 01:39 PM
flboy don't leave...don't anyone leave, please! This board is not nearly as busy as when I started years and years ago.
Mar 09, 2013, 05:52 PM
Flboy, I second that! Don't leave. There are some people that write in an overbearing manner because...... Well, because they do. That is part of the problem inherent when you are using written communication instead of oral.
I have never, ever found you to be offensive, even when I disagreed with you. Please stay. We need different points of view to keep this interesting and informative.
Mar 09, 2013, 08:54 PM
I echo what everyone else is saying...flboy, I've never found you to be offensive. There are some very offensive people on this board who think they actually "own" the board or act like moderators, give opinions in definitive answers and are, at times, downright mean to those they don't see as worthy as to read their posts. I remember one in particular who excoriated another poster saying his/her English was so bad that the poster was wasting "our" time by posting and was an imposter... first of all when someone refers to her opinion as "ours", I take offense with that since I have NEVER agreed with anything that person ever says.. and her opinion is not mine almost 100% of the time. I don't think you should leave, I've always enjoyed your posts as I did LOS.

This problem was again in another board. The R.E. Board and because just a couple of weeks ago I was attacked again over something I said, I just feel I need to stay off the boards for awhile. It was of course none of you and it was not Idaho Resident who posts almost as if she is reading my mind. The people who again wanted a fuss have started a fuss with me too many times to try to reason anymore. I just feel as if the attaxckers are waiting for the least slip of the mind( and I have many)and I can't defend myself over and over. Thanks to all who have my back and understand.

It is sad when people feel the need to show their superiority by attacking others on an annonymous message board. :frown:
I have seen it from several folks in different areas on the boards. I think we all have seen someone write something that is off kilter or just plain weird. We are all coming from a different point of view, life experience and time in our lives.
I see no need to jump into a virtual shouting match with someone on here because what they post makes no sense to me.
I did allow myself to get drawn into one of those once and it is a no win situation. You cannot force people to read your tone when it is the written word, no matter how many emoticons you use.
But personally, I am a laid back kind of person who finds many of the accepted social rules rather antiquated, but nice. So I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about how tall the Thanksgiving centerpiece should be (I've never seen that discussion on here so I think I'm safe using it as an example.) I do know that it is very important to some of our friends and I move on to a more important discussion - Cousing Joe bringing his soft drink to the table in a bottle.

Stay with us, Flboy! I've always enjoyed your posts, too. Plus you have to dole out the fairy dust. :-)
I've always enjoyed LoS's posts, too, and seeing photos of her house. Truly an inspiring person. Hope she comes back.
