I used to be able to buy it in Kentucky. I can't find it here in Michigan. I would love to be able to buy it again.

I think so. I've never tried to find it myself, but I've eaten a wonderful cake that was made with it, so I guess it was found somewhere nearby.

No -- like FFG says, there is a wonderful cake made with it but I've never made the cake because I've never been able to find the coconut!

Reminds me that I simply adore coconut cake and that perhaps I should make one next time I have to make a dessert!

Every so often, I have seen (never bought) whole coconuts in the produce section of the supermarket. If you can find the whole, you could crack and grate your own...fresh. Probably even better?

Our super Walmart has it. The store listed below isn't our store, but this is what I've seen. I've also seen it in health food stores.

Last time I looked, only one grocery chain out of the three major ones we have here carried it. But I haven't looked in a long time, either.

Gotta be careful with fresh coconuts. They're often picked months ago and can be dried up or even moldy when cracked open. Pick one heavy for its size and be sure you can hear the liquid sloshing around inside. When they're fresh and nice, the flavor can't be beat!

Thank You Spanish Revival got the information and will call the frozen food manager at Wallmart. To see if they can order it.

I've used fresh coconut in the past what a job to crack peel and shread. Fresh coconut is so perishable it must be refrigerated it's not worth the hassle. Canned and bagged coconut just dose'nt compare to fresh. Thanks again Sue
