I have a set of huge Damask linen dinner napkins that measure 25" square. Isn't this rather large size? None of my others seem this big. Were they intended for some other use? They are old and from Grandma's collection.

Lurah - I have some of those and they are old and from Grandma's collection. What the heck? Did they eat a lot of ribs or something to need em so big???

I've never seen them that big either. I make mine 17 inches square (finished size).

In grandmas day there were breakfast napkins. Luncheon napkins tea napkins and dinner napkins. And yes the really "good" dinner napkins were huge. I have a couple of sets and I like the fact that they really cover the whole lap Artha

I prefer the larger napkins and generally make mine that size. Sherry Does this hat make my butt look big? www.keepyouinstitches.blogspot.com http://s193.photobucket.com/al...9/keepyouinstitches/ www.friendsofthedaingerfieldpu...library.blogspot.com

I have a lot of those large dinner napkins - was given a set of 12 with a large linen tablecloth as a wedding gift, received some of DH's GM's, and later bought more at a yard sale very inexpensively. Also have some smaller ones. I love good quality linen but don't like ironing so don't use them for their intended purpose as don't do formal dinners. I have used a few as a valance on my kitchen window. Just hung them over the rod overlapping with the points down. I think I used about 5 on my 6' window. Looked quite nice as a temporary valance. Sometimes I use my bigger ones as place-mats and as a base for a centerpiece...lots of fun to play with them for a table-scape
