Linderhof (aka Martha) started threads for the meals. I personally like to cut to the chase. After all there's some truth to "Life is short. Eat dessert first." With that in mind, what SWEETS did you cook? I'll start off. I made King Arthur's Spiced Chocolate Tart: http://www.kingarthurflour.com...hocolate-tart-recipe I used my pastry recipe so it was not gluten free. It was a bit of a disappointment. The ginger flavor was not very strong and I KNOW I used good ginger because it was Penzey's. The recipe said to strain custard before pouring into the baked tart shell. But son and I discussed it and I left the ginger in the custard. I am so glad I did. Biting into one of those bits was the only ginger flavor that came through. I also did not edge the tart with ginger as the recipe called for. I did whip some cream for a topper though. While it was good - I would've preferred my mother's chocolate pie. I don't make desserts very often. The last one I made was a cheesecake for when the girls came over. www.floridafarmgirlsworld.blogspot.com Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

I was looking for a smallish dessert recipe for after Sunday dinner and ended up making an old fashioned single layer scratch cake with the broiled coconut icing. I hadn't made one for years and forgot how good they are...and easy to make. My grandmother called it a Lazy Day cake or a Daisy cake.

I'd like to try a molten chocolate cake. Paula Dean's gets good reviews. Anyone try it? Or have another recipe for me? http://www.foodnetwork.com/rec...es-recipe/index.html

I use Baker's lava cake recipe. I posted it on my blog: http://keepyouinstitches.blogs...arch/label/chocolate They can be made up ahead of time, do not bake, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Bake as needed. If you overcook them, you have a really chocolate cupcake. I've made them several times. Hence my avatar. Yesterday made a poppy seed roll. A yeast dough rolled like jelly roll with poppy seed filling, raisins and almonds. Even my DH likes it. DH brought paczki home from the bakery so we had those this morning with coffee. Never had those before and we were both curious. Once a year I can enjoy one.

I made DHs second favorite sweet yesterday - oatmeal raisin cookies - Quaker's original Vanishing Oatmeal cookies. (The new recipe reduces the amount of brown sugar and butter which makes a definite difference in the cookie!) I would like to say that his first favorite sweet is me. Maybe I'm third on the list. Oh wait...Snickerdoodles. So now I - nope - tart cherry pie. Sigh. I guess I'm there somewhere. Edited to add: Just wanted to clarify that we like the original recipe better! The "new" recipe has less brown sugar and less butter making a more cake-like cookie. The original recipe makes a crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside cookie - which we prefer. I made sure I tossed the new recipe and not only kept the original recipe, but marked it as such. Quaker should not call a reworked recipe by the same name without a disclaimer! This message has been edited. I wanted something and pulled out a box of Ghiradelli Turtle Brownie mix. Doctored it up a bit and it is baking as I write this.

Hello KYIS, I would like to say I am DH's #1 sweet, but I know that I come in around fifth. I really don't mind because I am treated royally. But as for desserts made in Feb. I made gluten free brownies (9x13 pan). They were so good, I had to take half the pan to the neighbors as we were snorfing them. And DH agrees with you eat dessert first in case of diasterThis message has been edited. Last edited by: peppermintpattitotherescue, Save Planet Earth, it is the only Planet with chocolate!!

LOL I truly am DHs #1 sweet - he just doesn't know it. Of course if he could talk me into eating out EVERY day, yet bake desserts, he'd think he was in hea-ven. I prefer my own cooking. We eat out after church every Sunday and on occasion once during the week. He eats lunch in town EVERY weekday. I don't know how he does it. I'm determined to MASTER!! a raspberry cheesecake with a chocolate cookie wafer crust. I have a great cheesecake recipe but I have to find the perfect recipe for the raspberry swirl, coulee?, which I want to make from scratch.

Good luck on the hunt Spanish R. I just made a raspberry shortbread, crumb cake. It was one of the biggest flops of my baking career, I followed the recipe pretty much to a T. That was prob. what was wrong LOL it looked horable and tasted OK if you eat it with the lights out. Oh well tomorrow is another day will try again different recipe. Sue

I found a fabulous easy cake on Pinterest recently & it's a new favorite. Of course you could make everything from scratch, but it disappears so quickly... S'mores Cake chocolate cake mix 2 jars marmallow creme 1 jar caramel ice cream topping Cool Whip a few crushed graham crackers 1. Mix & bake the cake as directed, in a 9X13 pan. 2. Poke holes in the cake while it's hot, & spread the marshmallow creme over the top. (Or try to spread it. This is the hardest part.) 3. Drizzle caramel topping over the top. 4. Let cake cool 5. When ready to serve, top with Cool Whip & garnish with graham cracker crumbs.

At work the 15th is payday. We have birthday cake/muffins/doughnuts/breakfast casserole on that day so that the road crew can participate while they are in the courthouse picking up their checks. The judge generally handles it, but on occasion I jump in. I did for today. I thought about making a Mardi Gras King Cake but decided not to deal with a yeast recipe so I made King Cupcakes for today: http://www.kingarthurflour.com...king-cupcakes-recipe Instead of the little plastic doll or coin, I put a Hershey's kiss in the batter of one of them and told everyone that whoever got the kiss had to make the next cake. NO ONE FESSED UP! LOL However, I did bring the four leftover cupcakes home. We'll see if it's in one of those. The King Cup Cakes - the one with the Hershey's kiss in it. NO ONE owned up to getting that cup cake. I had a few leftover and brought them home because son was coming in for the weekend. Would you believe that the kiss was in the very last cupcake...and I'm the one who was eating it. So - I have to make the next cake. LOL I've created a monster. DH requested oatmeal cookies - again. I made them yesterday. The recipe calls for cinnamon. I opened my spice drawer and the cinnamon jar was very clearly gone. I looked all over the counter top in case I'd already gotten it out and just forgot. I looked in the pantry. In the drawer with my pastry tools. In the hotpad drawer and the cup towel drawer. In the cabinet beside the stove where I keep olive oil, vinegars, etc. I looked in the refrigerator. I looked in the FREEZER! I did find an old jar of Adams cinnamon in the freezer and used that. It's just not as good and fresh as Penzey's. DH came behind me and looked in all the places I'd already looked in. It would've been embarrassing if he'd found it. LOL After talking it over, I finally realized that I bet it's in the kitchen at the courthouse. I assembled a sweet potato dish one day during lunch for an event the Friends of the Library was catering. The recipe called for cinnamon. I'll check tomorrow.
