It's September! It was a rainy (although not cold) day on the prairie. With big baskets of onions at the farmer's market this morning and a good broth made form steak bones, onion soup seemed a logical choice for dinner.
Soup here, too. 2 days ago, I watched an episode of America's Test Kitchen that featured broccoli and cheese soup. It was easy and not too time consuming to prepare. I bought a sour dough baguette, and that was dinner. Our weather was foggy and cool, so it made for a comforting meal.
We had a big late lunch at grand-niece's 6th birthday...fried fish, grilled chicken and sausage and all the trimmings. Then topped it off with birthday cake.
So...DH had a bowl of cereal and I managed to get about 3 pork skins (protein ya know) down before I decided I was still just too full.
Funny! As hot as it has been here, I've also been making soup like crazy the past week: slow-cooker split pea made with a smoked turkey leg; avoglemono; minestrone with meatballs and chicken tortilla soup. I've got a bag of dried lentils in the pantry...
Oh, my, that French onion soup looks delicious, but the weather is still quite hot, so soup doesn't sound very appetizing. We've been subsisting on salads made of whatever vegetables we have on hand, plus grilled chicken. My kitchen has a skylight and is the hottest room in the house, so cooking is not in the cards right now.
Living vicariously thru all of you! I haven't cooked but 2 or 3 times this month. Mom in the hospital and I've been doing the 3-9 shift. DH and I are eating out most nights as I never know how long I will be there sitting with her. Keep those yummy photos coming!!!
