Oh my! DH was gone for the day. After church...what to do...what to do... I read a little, raked a few leaves, decided to make some snickerdoodles and ate waaaay too many fresh out of the oven. gag me with a spoon Swept the kitchen. I started to put the ingredients in the bread machine for a loaf of bread but vetoed that idea and made English muffins instead. This was the very first time I used my Kitchenaide and its dough hook to knead the dough. It did a fantastic job! I cooked them on an electric griddle. DH got home before the roast chicken was done. With all the odors in the kitchen, he picked up on the cinnamon. LOL For supper he had roast chicken, rice with buttermilk gravy, and purple hull peas. I had half an English muffin with a couple of slices of chicken breast covered in buttermilk gravy. I had only one snickerdoodle for dessert. NO! I did not fess up to DH how many I ate before he got home. Actually, I lost count... Edited: LOL to correct the spelling on knead - My mind really knows that it is not 'need.' LOL! Don't you know that cookies eaten in secret have no calories...I wish. I've been eating the bits of cake that I cut off the cottage cakes to make the cottage bottoms flat for breakfast. I couldn't bear to throw the excess cake away.

We at at the Catholic church for a fried chicken lunch -- dinner was the very last of the turkey in the form of a sandwich. Martha

We had buccatini with marinara (jarred jazzed up with fresh onions, garlic and green pepper) with Italian sausage and a salad with vinaigrette. No dessert! Martha

You are making me hungry! Dson brought home 2 big fillets of fish. So it was a fish fry night! I use the electric skillet out in the garage to keep the smell out of the house. LOL. It still tasted great! ![]()

Beau -- that fish looks delicious. How do you prepare it? I rarely do fish but a friend did some blue gill a few weeks ago by coating them with flour, then dipping in an egg wash, then again with cracker crumbs and it was really good.

Hi My Life, We used to fry everything...even lobster but seldom do fish fry anymore either. But once in a while there is nothing like it so it must be fried. I used a product called Golden Dipt Fish Fry. It is a fine meal with seasonings and usually found near bread crumbs in the grocer. Just pat fish dry first and shake into the dipt. Set the fry pan for 350 degrees. Throw in a small piece of bread to check the oil temp and let it brown. Remove and then proceed to fish fry. You can also use cracker meal and add your own seasonings. I like the lighter texture of the cracker meal. Sometimes I will do a milk or egg wash first but it's not necessary. The old catfish house never used a wash though on fish. Just cracker meal and seasonings. Good Luck and Enjoy! ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives

We've been so busy I haven't cooked much...eating whatever's in the refrigerator for an almost grab 'n' go meal. But I did make shortbread cookies for a dinner this evening. We are to bring cookies and an ornament. The cookies were easy...had no idea about the ornament, but did get one. We had lemon chicken orzo soup with the addition of the vegetables I brought home from lunch. Husband and I had a big lunch out so dinner was light. Martha

Thanks Beau -- I'm going to give this a try when I go south next month. Happy holidays.

Celebrated DHs 77th birthday with his kids and our grandchildren. He got his requested steak cooked perfectly by his DS. His DD also cooked one of his least favorite vegetables - Brussels sprouts which barely had the chill knocked off them...not just still crunchy but also fairly raw. I like them but was surprised that they weren't even sauteed decently. We also had asparagus which was cooked perfect for me...al dente. But not for DH who likes it cooked to the soft stage (over-cooked for most of us). He confided to me that he sure missed his baked potato and Caesar salad.
