We had an offer that came with our new range for the cooktop griddle and grill (duel griddle/grill, broiler pan, and a cast iron piece to go with broiler??? It was only 19.00 for the five pieces - two shown below). The pieces are from Electrolux but did not ship with any instructions or care recommendations.

The grill/griddle are cast iron but I don't think the parts are seasoned. Really rough feel and it gives me the goosebumps (like a chalkboard but really rough). Same as the burner grates.

Any experience out there with getting these type of pieces up and operational? My cast iron pan was well seasoned when purchased, so I'm not so sure how to proceed with these. Any advice?

ETA to add photo.

Look here:

Click on Refurbish Your Finish.

Only I do not suggest vegetable oil. I did that once and had to reburn and reseason a skillet because it gummed up. Since I don't keep solid shortening (Crisco), I use bacon grease or lard (I use lard for pie pastry so always have it on hand).

When I pick up a piece of cast iron with lots of crusty stuff on it, I set it aside until it's time to clean the oven. I then put it upside down in the oven and set it to self clean. Then I reseason.

I'd contact the cooktop manufacturer for instructions lest you risk invalidating their warranty. Most cast iron requires an oil to season and NEVER wash with soapy water. I use boiling water, wipe dry and coat w/ more oil on my cast iron pans. Again...contacting the manufacturer is the safest thing to do.
