We grilled some lobster tails last weekend with garlic butter. I don't really care for lobster to begin with, but thought I'd give it another go. They had basically no flavor at all, so I'm wondering if lobster hardly has a favor to begin with? Also steamed some snow crab legs...I could've eaten the whole pack of those myself. Thanks
Actually I think lobster does not have too much flavor. Yesterday I had a lobster roll for lunch and actually did not like it although it was chock a block full of nice lobster meat.
On Sunday I had a bowl of lobster soup and it was much nicer but that has butter etc added to it. As DH says lobster has to be dunked in butter.
I love lobster, any kind, soft or hard shell. I like to steam 2 hard shell lobsters, take all the meat out of one, body and claws and stuff the other one with the meat from the fist and second body mixed with cracker crumbs, parsley, and just a teensy bit of garlic, mix melted butter in and add to lobster meat, Stuff that baby to overflowing and broil under high broil. YUM! I like to have fresh lemon sprinkled on the finished lobster.

In my limited experience what I consider "good" lobster has a mild but distinctive taste - kinda sweet as Sherry mentioned - and the flesh is firm but not tough or stringy and is moist rather than dry. I've had good and not so good tails that were both fresh and frozen. Also have had good and not so good whole fresh lobsters from the ocean in Maine.
Have to think they vary like any other natural product. People who know how to recognize the good ones and how to prepare them best probably have only "good" lobster.

I bought them frozen at Sams Club. I'm not a lobster fan, and I thought maybe if I grilled them, I could make them better than what I ever had. I had 1/2 a tail, hubby had a whole one and the dog got 1/2 a tail. I think if I ever venture to try it again, I have it at a restaurant.
Well, I waited a few days to gather my thoughts since LOBSTER is my most very, very favorite food ever! I love filet mignon, a great T-Bone, prime rib and fresh dungeness crab but, hands down, lobster is the best!
However, since we are inland, we very seldom get the chance for fresh so have a lot of experience with frozen although fresh is best! It does have a wonderful flavor (very delicate and sweet) when cooked right especially when it is enhanced with lemon butter sauce! BUT I would eat (and savor every bite) of the lobster just by itself...
Now, I'm talking about lobster TAILS - not whole lobsters as I haven't had much chance to cook (and I'm a bit sqeamish when it comes to that!) so I'm talking about just the tails! So, best way to cook lobster tails? First, soak in luke-warm salted water until thawed. Slip finger between shell and meat to loosen and then STEAM! You will know when they are done when the color turns from translucent to oblaque - sp?
I used to broil them but every single morsel is too valuable to lose that way, so now I steam them and serve with the lemon butter sauce mentioned above. Every bite - ambrosia!!!
I love lobster!!! It usually has a nice sweet flavor. Even though it is a lot of work to get the meat out, I still love it!!!! Yes, you can dip it in butter if you want to, but I think it's good either way. Seafood is one of my favorite foods and I always have that over "regular fish" if the price is right!

I am wondering if lobster is cheaper in Florida! I went to Maine on vacation a couple of years ago and was very disappointed to see that the lobster was the same price (& even more expensive) in Maine ($25 or so in restaurants) than it was in NJ. We came home after the vacation and saw Lobsters were on sale in Shoprite supermarket for $5.99/lb. and they will steam them for you. I don't understand why they were so expensive in Maine. I thought (& was told) they are cheaper! :-(

Well, when I want a lobster that is where I go, so I guess the business this generates is all good. This has been a feature of theirs for quite a few years now.
