I just found out my neighbor has a tart cherry tree and is loaded. She said I can have all of them if I want. I'm off to get some pectin to make jam, I also plan to dehydrate some--I have a dehydrater but have never used it....any suggestions on how? Or any other suggestions on how to put them up I'd appreciate your help. Thanks
BTW- I don't have much freezer space left after picking 38 pints of black raspberries. |

I don't have access to fresh cherries, but every time we go to CO, I purchase a bucket full for the freezer. (We pull a camper trailer and can keep them frozen.) They make the best cherry pies. I don't like sweet cherries for pies...
I found this site: http://farmgal.tripod.com/Dehydrate.html It even has recipes towards the bottom...Just keep scrolling down for great tips! To freeze, after pitting, just put in a freezer container or bag and seal. You can go ahead and add enough sugar for your pie...then all you have to do is fill the crust, dot with butter, cover with top crust, and bake. I feel a pie baking session coming on this afternoon! |

Thanks Sherry, I didn't know you could make a pie from dehydrated cherries.
Don't you know I'm making a pie from fresh cherries this afternoon too! I can't wait. |
