While I was away on a cruise with DS, DH had a serious kitchen mishap. He was browning ground beef and onions in a teflon pan. Unfortunately he left the room and all but set the pan on fire.
When I returned home several days later my nose was assaulted by a horrible odor. So on Sunday I spent my first day home removing everything from the top of the cabinets, scrubbing everything, degreasing and cleaning the tops of the cabinets and everything else in the kitchen what can we do for the last faint odor? Plus I have a gel odor absorber sitting out.
DH had already cleaned the cabinet doors and countertops before I returned.
I suppose the good news, we have a head start on spring cleaning.
You didn't specifically mention the vent fan. Did you clean the filter, fan blades, and all reachable parts? Odors can hide there. Also, the undersides of the upper cabinet boxes hold film and odors you might not normally think to clean away.
I think a large commercial fan set near a door to blow the bad air out and fresh air in. I also read once that charcoal absorbs odors. I wonder if you could set a bowl on the top of the cabinets. When I go away I leave DH every meal in the freezer for every day because......I hope he couldn't cause any fires with the microwave.
