I made pot roast in my slow cooker today.. at least I TRIED to make it...

After 7 hours neither the meat nor the vegetables were done. AT ALL. I mean the potatoes couldn't be pierced with a fork, and the fat hadn't even rendered off the meat.

I added a little more broth and its been on there for an aditional 5 hours and its still barely cooked. I can at least smell it which is a good sign.

Do I risk it on low for all night? Do I call it a wash?

I haven't a clue. The temperature was the same as always, the food just wouldn't cook...???

Sounds like the heating element is gone. How old is your slow cooker?

Perhaps a new slow cooker should be on your Christmas list.

It certainly does sound like a mechanical malfunction. Time to replace your crockpot.

Yep, sounds like your cooker, not the roast, which I would not try to finish cooking by the way.

Yep, heating element is shot. time for a new cooker.

Today I tested it. I put 3 qts of water in the crock pot, turned it on HIGH and checked in 3 hours.. temperature with a candy thermometer was only 190.

Ive had it only about 6 months.

Returning it might be worth the try. Six months isn't the proper length of time that it should have failed.

I just did a quick search...most slow cookers have a one year warranty. Do you still have your purchased information?

Would definitely return crock pot... after only 6 months?!?

Would have put contents from dying crockpot into some kind of oven-proof container and into low oven... maybe 250?

Depends on the manufacturer, but there are some that will honor a warranty based on product code number on the device too.

I would probably start out contacting the manufacturer, and stating how long you have had it and why you are dissatisfied. They may just ship you a replacement without a hassle.

If you put the item on a charge card, getting a copy of the charge bill may offer you proof of purchase too, should you need it.

I would contact the company online and give them your story. My crockpot was used 3 or 4 times and it was getting hot in the back but not in the front. I contacted them and they sent me a new one. Won't hurt to check with them...

I DEFINITELY agree w/ those who suggested you contact the company. Have facts/dates at the ready and skip the middle "men" and go to corporate. I have learned from experience that you get better results from corporate if you voice your disappointment/issues re. one of their products. You'll have a new slow cooker in short time as reputable companies will bend backwards to please their consumers. I also agree that offering a copy of the receipt is beneifical. Let us know what developes. Do not wait on this.
