With the doggie chicken jerky being recalled, I've decided to try making my own. Lots of recipes on the Internet, but there is so much variation I don't know if a recipe will work, or not. Looking for one to do in the oven at low temp because I don't have a dehydrator. (YET!) Any T&T recipes? Thanks! ... I should add that switching to lamb, beef, and other types of jerky doesn't work. Our doggies won't touch it. BTDT.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Indexlady,

No pets of any sort here, but don't give up on the other meats until you've dehydrated your own. When you get the chicken recipe, add one piece of beef or lamb and jerk it. Then see if your dogs like it. Poultry is one of the less expensive meats out there and since they like it, there's really no reason to change their diet. However! I once had a wire-haired terrier. We learned very quickly to not feed him any poultry. For some reason, it gassed him. WHEW! He nearly ran us out of the cab of a pickup truck one time. This message has been edited. Good idea to try a piece of the other meats. Thanks! Funny about the gassies. One of our dogs HAS had less gassies now that I think about it. Will follow through with that. Not sure if it's the chicken, or flavorings, or perservatives. Going to keep an eye on that.

Recipe and Results: Heated oven to 200 degrees. Lined a baking tray with parchment paper. Sliced 1 chicken breast into 1/8" to 1/4" slices, going with the grain. Baked for 3 hours. At 2 hours, it wasn't cooked through on the underside. Just barely, slightly flexible. Dogs LOVED it. No seasonings or salt. Just plain.

Good! You could turn the pieces over halfway through the cooking. Sherry Does this hat make my butt look big? www.keepyouinstitches.blogspot.com http://s193.photobucket.com/al...9/keepyouinstitches/ www.friendsofthedaingerfieldpu...library.blogspot.com

Hadn't thought of that. I will tomorrow with next batch. It might help them cook faster. Thanks for the suggestion!
