Sounds like so much fun! I would be sure have have the game Twister there. That screams sock-hop. You may even get some ideas from watching old black and white tv shows for decorating inspiration.

I think 50's type food would be fun. I wasn't alive then, but I think soda fountain stuff like milkshakes or root beer(coke)floats might be fun.

Poodles would be fun, even if they are not on skirts. Use some of the slang expressions from that era.

Oh this will be fun. I can't wait to hear more ideas. I have a dd about to turn 8. She loves Grease. I have not let her watch the whole movie, it's a bit adult for her.

Of course, you're playing 50s music! Kids could show up dressed with favorite bouffant, duck tail, bowling shirt, leather jacket, poodle skirt, or other.

Hula hoop contest. Craziest sock contest. Dance contest.

Do have lots of supervision. Keep kids busy. Depending upon number of kids present, you may want to divide some activities into groups.

If you can find some old 45 records- you could string them on fishing line and hand them form the ceiling- like a giant mobile. Also, disco ball would be fun.

My era was so much fun!! Love sock hops. I used to wear quilted skirts, tons of petticoats, sweater sets with peterpan collars. Have Fun!!!

i want to use the records to decorate of course but have planned to use them to make a cute invitation as well. i have been picking up records at goodwill for a while. usually 99 cents or buy one get one free occasionally. a couple of days ago i stopped in a "new" thrift store. she sold me 40 for only $5. i was thrilled. hadn't even thought of twister but that's a given! thanks

Limbo would be great for 8 yos, but I don't know where you'd find the music.
The name game song - Martha Martha Bobartha...
    Hula Hoops
Jump rope contest with old fashioned rhymes - matbe double dutch
    Hopscotch
A fun thing would be to have a lot of clothes for dress up - if the kids won't come already dressed for the 50's. You could have a couple of moms there to do hair - boys & girls both.
Definitely milk shakes & floats in tall glasses with straws. Our dollar store often has the old kind. Your thrift store probably has them too.
    Have fun.
