DH came home with the wrong product. I told him to get Athens Filo shells but if something doesn't appear where he's looking, he doesn't look any further.

I plan to return them but thought someone here might have some idea as to what I can do with them. The recipe on the box is for little Chicken Pot Pies. I don't think that would be such a good idea for Super Bowl fare.

The only time that I ever used them was for a "baked Brie" appetizer. You put the cheese, topped with apricot jam, inside the pastry shell and bake. It was very well received. I am sure you can find the recipe online. Plus it was very easy!

Spread one layer out and thin a little bit with a rolling pin. Brush on some mustard. Layer some slices of ham and cheese and, cover with the second sheet and give an egg wash. Bake at the temperature on the box till golden and crispy. I also like Grapefruits suggestion too.

The little pre-shaped shells? I used them with fresh berries and whipped cream. It's a frozen product so it will keep.

You can use them for a lot of things -- Junk Collector has a great use for them, they'd be good for cold chicken salad, a pot pie type of chicken filling. Could you put the same thing in the puff pastry that you would get in the Filo? I know they're not totally interchangeable but sometimes it would work.

These are shells, not sheets. I was planning to make Pecan Tassies, using the Athens filo shells that fit into mini cupcake-like pans instead of the usual cream cheese crust. There's a recipe online for Pecan Tartlets (at about.com, I think).

I've never worked with these PF shells, so I don't even know what they look like in person. I did watch the PF video. They look quite high and there's a lid on it that you remove after you've baked it--I guess you just throw that away or treat the baker!

Lori, I've used them and I've also made my own from sheets -- both times filled with them a chicken pot pie type filling or a luncheon after baking. No I don't think they would work for what you are planning on for they really do need to be baked first and then filled.

Your pecan tassies sound really good in the filo shells and I'll have to try it sometime.

They're bigger, too, than the filo shells -- or at least the ones I've had experience with -- you really need a fork -- they're not finger food!

But they are good! And filling with berries and cream and the puff pastry is a good combination!

Many, many years ago, my ex-boyfriend's Mom --who was born in France -- showed me how to make delicious appetizers using the PF Pastry Shells. That was the beginning of my life-long addiction to puff pastry.

Here's how:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Prepare 1 large baking sheet with parchment paper, NOT foil.

Thaw shells according to package directions.
Roll out each one into approx. 6" circle on a floured surface. Cut each in half for a total of 12 pieces.

Filling: mix together 3 oz. package slightly softened cream cheese (not whipped cream cheese) and about 3-4 oz. good quality blue cheese to form a thick paste. Let it chill for a few minutes in the frig to stiffen.

Place about 2 TBS of the cheese mixture on each half and fold and pinch to make a small purse-like bundle. Don't worry about having a precise shape. The beauty of these appetizers is their slightly rustic appearance. DO NOT OVERFILL. (Save leftover cheese mix in frig.)

Place on prepared baking sheet, with pinched edges facing up.

Brush each bundle lightly all over with an egg wash (1 egg beaten with a little cold water.)

Bake at preheated 400 degrees on center rack for about 8 - 10 minutes or until deeply golden and fragrant. Do not let them brown too much. Yield: 12 luscious, filling appetizers.
Serve immediately.

Well, now I'm sorry that I returned the PF shells. Since Winco didn't carry the filo (phyllo) cups, I decided that I would bring a Taco Salad to the party.

aychihuahua, your blue cheese appetizers sound yummy AND easy. Maybe I'll try that for our cruiseout hors d'oeuvres/potluck lunch next Sat. If I remember correctly, there were 6 shells in a pkg. Would the 3 oz philly be enough to do two pkgs. yielding 24 pcs.?

I just reread your post. Looks like I should get 8 oz pkg of philly and same amt. of blue cheese to do 24 pcs.
