as the holidays are here i like to have stuff on hand for get togethers but don't want full meals thing i can serve just as a ok lets snack but it's not a meal. what do you serve for unexpected guest? or for the expected ones. snack type finger foods.
I just can't be on my feet right now cooking everything for everyone.
For this reason, I love the trays of cheese, meats, and crackers found usually near the deli area. They are in smaller packets within the larger tray.
Ham is in it's own packet. Ditto for turkey. A couple of packages of Townhouse type crackers. Cheese in a separate packet.
No need to open all the packets, if not necessary.
The meats and cheeses are cut to size to fit on the crackers, etc.
If my friends cannot accept my limitations at this time, then they need to go somewhere else, and I need new friends.
Indexlady I hope you feel better soon. Sue
Oh, dear; unexpected guests that just show up at the door??? I admire that people can 'roll' with that.
We've eaten at step-son's two weeks in a row (DGSs birthday and Thanksgiving). They served cheese trays with crackers and fruit trays purchased at Whole Foods.
I did not hear one complaint.
With or without any problem that keeps you from spending a long time in the kitchen, I'm with Indexlady...if friends (and family) cannot accept..it...
Does this hat make my butt look big?
Indexlady, I'm so sorry that you are feeling poorly.
Sierra, I usually keep some gourmet cheese and crackers around so I can put together a quick cheese plate if guests show up unexpectedly. Add a small bowl of olives and one of nuts and you have a pretty complete cocktail party menu.
Costco had a nice box of prosciutto/cheese and salami/cheese rolls that held three individual packets, so you could open one at a time.
Thank you so much!
Thanks! It will pass. A miserable time of year to limit time on feet, for sure!
INDEX LADY-- sorry you're not feeling well.
As to things on hand -- cheese and crackers, usually some kind of tea bread in the freezer, sometimes palmiers in the freezer (savory and sweet) to bake off as needed. And sometimes I have cheese straws that I can bake quickly.

Thank you, Martha. Love your ideas of what to serve.
I can generally throw together a snack tray with cheese or cheese curds, crackers, baby carrots, celery, radishes, olives, pickles and sometimes a sweet cookie or bar.
thanks for the ideas
