jello won't set Sign In/Join

I know this sounds like a kindergarten thing but I made some jello that would not set. I put the usual of 1 cup hot water, 1 cup cold to dissolve. I added some frozen fruit that had been thawed and drained. It didn't set so I thought perhaps the fruit still had too much moisture in it so I took another box of jello and added hot water but no cold water and stirred all together. Still is pure liquid......how does that happen? Never had a problem before.

Fresh pineapple, paypaya, and kiwi have enzymes that prevent jello from setting. Frozen is the same as fresh. If your fruit mix contains any of those, there's your answer.

I just got done reading the package before you answered Nettiejay and you are absolutely correct. I used all the ones that you are not supposed to........I guess I almost always have used fresh fruit before so I kept thinking I just had too much moisture in the fruit. Here I am at 72 years old and learning to make jello! hahaha Now.............any suggestions as to what to do with liquid jello with fruit in it?

LOL - drain it and set the fruit out for the birds? Do birds like that fruit? Just goes to show that we're never too old to learn something new! If it makes you feel any better, Hammerhugger, I didn't know some fruits would cause jello not to gel either. Cool

Hahaha, you are all funny with your answers. The vodka doesn't sound like a bad idea! I wondered if I could make a fruit smoothie by taking out the fruit and add milk and blend. It is even too runny to use over pancakes or ice cream. When I say it didn't set, I mean not at all!
