DS is visiting. We've treated him to sushi Thursday night (I had a few bites of California rolls then ordered Bugolgi and shared with him). DH grilled steaks, onions, and potatoes for DSs 29th birthday Friday (his B-day was Thursday but he got here too late for steaks). Today we had our Christmas dinner. I disjointed the turkey last night and prepped the brine. This morning I got up early and put the turkey pieces in the brine and set it on the screen porch - it was 25 degrees out there. Then I took a nap. I had the bread machine plugged in, the ham and turkey in the oven and started working on the dressing. DS walked in and asked, "What can I do?" He started out chopping and dicing for me but finished up preparing the Brussels sprouts, collard greens, 3 cheese mac 'n' cheese, and fried the turkey wings. I did the sweet potatoes - sliced, drizzled with maple syrup, sprinkled with a dash of salt and some cinnamon. Topped with a handful of dried cranberries and some slivered almonds. Oh..and a few pats of butter. First time for those and they were good! (I had already baked the desserts on Friday). Ran the dishwasher twice this morning...mercy we dirtied a lot of pans and bowls. LOL But we worked together in the kitchen pretty good. He helped me a lot when he was a kid. He is culinary manager at an assisted living center - cooks Monday - Friday. We had several family members over, the grandsons again, my niece and her children, BIL and SIL and their DGDs. Ate, visited, played Scrabble and passed babies around. We had a grand time! It sounds like a perfect day,Sherry. A little 'together' time with your son doing something you both enjoy. I hope he is doing well after his relationship breakup.

I love being in the kitchen and cooking with my kids too, it just makes it more enjoyable, cooking, story telling, laughing.

TY. He is doing pretty good this go-round. She's done it before and it seems like this time he was better prepared. He's talking about moving back here - maybe in a few months. My fingers are crossed but more importantly I'm praying the best for him. We did laugh! He's not so much used to having someone in the kitchen with him. I was constantly singing "to the right (or left)...to the right...to the right" so that he would move and I could get a spoon or pot or spice. LOL At dinner there was a 3-way argument about the buttermilk pie - about who specifically I baked it for. LOL They all three looked at me. And I - ahem - well - By the time stepS asked for it I already had it on the list for DS. SIL just harumphed. LOL Now we have so much food in the refrigerator! I'm thinking about taking it to work Monday...especially the sweets... Sounds like a perfect day. It is so enjoyable to spend quality time in kitchen and your DS being an experienced kitchen chef makes it all the more so. The chit chat between those working is priceless!

Awww; that's great you had so much fun with your DS! We sure hurt when our kids are hurting don't we? Also, hope things will be much better for him in 2013
