Have you ever heard of this? This a.m. a friend mentioned that she was never able to find a recipe for this dessert that her mother used to make. She said it was more of a cobbler.

I HAVE heard of Vinegar pie but never had any. Did you "Google" it? ~Jean~ in garden zone 6b

Of course I've heard of vinegar pie. Did your friend do a search for vinegar pie, or vinegar cobbler? Does she want the one that has a meringue topping? Marcia Adams has a recipe for old fashioned vinegar pie in her cookbook title "Heartland" The pioneers made vinegar pie when they ran out of dried fruit to use in their pies.

It is an old recipe and I've heard of it although I've never eaten it. Martha

Hi Lori, I checked through two old cookbooks but didn't find a recipe. I have heard of it but never had the chance to try it. Here is one recipe I found for you. http://www.cookthink.com/recip...ashioned_Vinegar_PieThis message has been edited. Yes, I googled it and found lots of pie-looking recipes. She said her mom called it Vinegar Pie but it was more of a cobbler. I should be seeing her again next Tues. at quilting so I'll find out more then. I think she was born in AR or MO so I figured this was a regional dish.

In your search engine did you type in: vinegar cobbler recipe? Quite a few hits. Some had the filling layered alternately with criss-cross strips of dough. That sounds more cobbler-like.
