Has anyone had one? I'm thinking of ordering one from a restaurant here in FL for Thanksgiving, but! don't want to ruin dinner for all of us if it's not good.

sms29s66I come from south Louisiana about 15 miles away from where turducken was "invented". My daughter and I decided to have it for Christmas once. It was good, but I haven't had the urge to serve it again. It was just too much meat for the number of people we had over for dinner. I think it was more of a fad in this area than a "staple". I don't hear of anyone serving it locally. I recently heard of a local variation--a duck stuffed with a chicken stuffed with a quail. That sounds more manageable to me!

ga.karenA gal on another board did one last year (think it was last year). She did her own! Way too much work for me! I think they all liked it but like SMS said, it can be a LOT of meat.
I personally don't care for duck, so I have no desire to even try one.

Idaho ResidentUntil reading this thread, I didn't even know about "turducken"!

And still don't really know what it is ~ anyone want to explain? But if it involves duck, no thanks, I'll pass. I just really do not like the taste of wild game ~ venison, sage hen, duck, goose or whatever ~ and it really doesn't matter if the "wild" game is actually grown on a domesticated farm for that purpose.
I simply do not care for the "gamey" flavor. Some years ago, friends of ours (who were avid duck hunters) couldn't believe that I didn't care for duck and simply assured me that I had never had it properly prepared so they invited DH and I to a "duck" dinner which they had gone to great lengths to make extra special with a number of different duck dishes.
I tried them all ~ very creative and moist, not dry ~ but didn't like even one of them. I've even had Peking Duck in Peking (now Beijing) and didn't care for it either.

So I vote for turkey for Thanksgiving!

I sampled one last year or year before...so-so. Definitely won't waste my money, time, and effort.

KeepYouInStitchesI would suggest getting one while they are available and freeze it for another time. Then cook your traditional meal now. Later, pull it out of the freezer and cook it. See if you like it then...

ga.karenIt is a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey and all tied together while it cooks.
That gal that did her own, showed us all her steps in pics...like I said before...WAY more work that I would want to do!
I forgot to add that if I remember correctly, each of them was deboned before being put together.

Lg56How funny to see this here today. I just heard about this yesterday when I was at my exercise group. This is new to me.
A lady said her daughter-in-law wanted this for Thanksgiving as she had this was something she had always wanted to try and people said it was wonderful.
