So what items do you run out of in your kitchen? I made a special effort to prepare for bad weather this weekend due to TS Isaac buying milk and bread. This morning DH tells me that we are almost out. If I buy double we don't use it...but buy just ONE and we are running OUT! So what's your run-out item? ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives

Bread. DH goes through that stuff like air. We usually buy 3 loaves at the time and just put two of them in the freezer. Otherwise, sombody would be to the store every other day practically. www.floridafarmgirlsworld.blogspot.com Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

Nuts and nut/dried fruit mix. DHs snack food. Yesterday I was surprised at my low stock of spices, cocoa, etc. I thought I needed only 2-3 items from Penzey's. As I flipped through the catalog and jumped up every few minutes to go check my supply - I have a fairly substantial ($) order to make. Edited to add: Since I've been baking pear cakes for the freezer - butter, eggs, pecans. Milk also freezes. You just have to shake it after it is thawed. I also always have butter in the freezer. We also get low on bread but if there is room in the freezer (and there usually is) we buy 2 loafs. If we are buying a specialty bread we don't necessarily eat every day, it is divided into 2 pkg and one is frozen. My husband runs out of candy but that does not demand a trip to the store

Milk, but thats on purpose. WalMart is an easy right turn off my route home from work or my health club.

Bananas and cereal and then milk. DH uses these daily and in large quantities. I vary my breakfast so can content myself with a choice of things.

This is ONE of the reasons we have 2 freezers. DH goes through milk, bread & bananas like crazy. And we visit the day old store for our bread...get 6 at a time if they have my favorite. We stock up on milk when it's on sale...like last Wed. one store had it 2/$5. I usually buy enough butter at Christmas time when it's on sale to last a year. It keeps fine in the bottom of my chest freezer....and the milk sits on top of it. "The soil is the source of life, creativity, culture and real independence." David Ben-Gurion

"Ditto"! Same here ~ We always run out of ICE CREAM, milk, bread, eggs & fruit! (the first one is the one most missed!) Now I started buying 2 breads, including the one I love: rye bread w/seeds! We often buy 2 cartons of eggs at the same time (they last long)This message has been edited. Last edited by: Wavy, SPRING HAS F I N A L L Y SPRUNG!!!!!

You order your foods 'on-line'? How nice! SPRING HAS F I N A L L Y SPRUNG!!!!!

Spices, cocoa, dressing mixes, seasonings, etc....I order online from www.penzeys.com. MUCH fresher, better tasting, and generally less expensive than the grocery store. That needed 2 or 3 items has turned into TEN items! LOL Worse than going in the grocery store hungry! It's the same here. Milk, bread, cereal, apples and diet soda. Whether You Think You Can Or You Think You Can't..... You're Right - Henry Ford

This is a topic I think about during winter when forecast is for a "winter storm". Here in NJ, not far from Philly, a BIG storm rarely happens. Worst one I can remember was sometime in 90's when we got over 3' in one storm. If ya live in Wyoming or the Dakotas... probably big whoop! I just made sure I had "essentials"... coffee, half&half (preferred), toilet paper, and dog food. I was set. DID go out to supermarket... to people-watch and buy good snack stuff. Live on a cul de sac... fancy name for circle... and we get plowed last by township trucks. Even with close to 4' of snow, was only snowed in for less than 2 days. Have enough "stuff" in cans and in freezer that I knew I was in no danger of STARVING!

Freezing milk? Make sure to buy the plastic gallons (or half gallons) with the round dents in the sides of the container. These expand when freezing, preventing a burst container. I started buying the Organic Milk (Walmart & Safeway carry it for less) a year ago, it is now the only kind I buy. Just tastes so much better to me and lasts nearly a month in the refrigerator.

When first married, FIL was head custodian at the local elementary school. Every Friday... EVERY container of milk had to go in the trash, even if sell-by day was into the following week. Would often have a few DOZEN of those little half pint containers in freezer. Ya just have to let it thaw completely and give a good shake before using.

We run out of milk and cereal the easiest. And fresh fruit. We never run out of bread. I buy a loaf and it goes moldy before it is half eaten. Almost never eat bread.

WOW! TFS this site, Sherry. I just took a look and so far, have spent more than $50 just browsing! They even have Zatar!! One of my favorite spice blends; almost impossible to find in my Central Texas stores.

I had to think about this. Mayo, apples, cucumbers, lettuce, water, sour cream, cheese, milk, and butter. Most everything else is a menu item and purchased with weekly groceries. But, these... I don't necessarily have room for a large supply and/or they don't keep well. So they are smaller purchases that I'm always running out of quickly.

aychihuahua, you are more than welcome. Be sure to check store locations. I know that there's one in Houston and maybe one in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. ...Just checked: Arlington Dallas Austin Houston Aren't you near Austin?
