Food traditions at Linderhof: Christmas Eve -- cookies (whatever we have left but there are almost always green sprinkled Christmas trees), slices of fruitcake and egg not. All eaten after church. When daughter was small we read the story from Luke and Twas the Night Before Christmas then and put out some of the cookies and nog for Santa. Now we just enjoy! Christmas Morning -- stollen and kringle although the kringle is winning out over the stollen -- neither homebaked but both boughten -- the kringle from Minneapolis -- the stollen from a German market. There's only one for us: Panettone. We must have it on Christmas morning for breakfast, slathered with butter, along with cafe au lait. We have already started looking for it in our local stores. Oh, and it must be a product of Italy.

Truffles to eat and give out as gifts to family and close friends. Fudge for "drop-in" guests and when we go to the all families (in-laws and out-laws) First marriage, I made dozens and dozens of different cookies for 1st DH to take to work, for DS to give to friends, etc. This message has been edited. Eggnog was always a tradition with us and DD loves it. I made some "low Calorie" to take for Thanksgiving and it was not too tasty. Better have less of the real thing. We spend Xmas with DD's family so many of our own traditions have disappeared. At their house "The night before Xmas" was a tradition but maybe no longer as kids are 20 and 17. Still though there will be cookies left for Santa Claus just like there were chocolate turkeys by each "childs" plate at Thanksgiving. Oh we always have bloody Mary's on Christmas morning.

Wild Rice Soup on Christmas Eve. Frosted Sugar Cookies Fudge Eggnog Bavarian Activity wise, we attend musical concerts, plays, events that are offered in the community - usually choose about 6 or 7 of them and a few parties with the boards I serve. This message has been edited. White Christmas pie for Christmas Day--an old Betty Crocker recipe for a white custard pie with whipped cream and coconut. Oysters and homemade French Fries for dinner a couple of days before Christmas--we used to have them on Christmas Eve but we spend it with DH's family now. Prime rib for Christmas Dinner.

I don't do cookies all through December. I make one batch of each kind I am making and keep them until Christmas eve. They are the dessert for that dinner. Then we have the cookies with our Christmas morning breakfast, and all that day. The left over cookies are eaten during the week between Christmas and New Years.

I've gotten out of doing that sort of thing since we always travel around the holidays...however, next year, I have already told DH that I am staying home; we'll be in our new house then and I want to decorate; I haven't done that in way too many years...I have big plans!

Sherry, where'd your big hat image go????? It's not showing up here! OMG, this is weird, I just looked at Sherry's post and the image was there. Don't know what happened. I have to make fudge, and popcorn balls. My daughters and I get together about a week before Christmas to do our baking: pressed and cutout cookies, and walnut balls--a double batch of each one. We start at 10 am, break for a pizza lunch (DH shows up for that and then leaves) and finish up our baking about 5 pm. In my next life, I'm coming back as a man! This message has been edited.
