For dinner with friends next week I'm making a new recipe- Cheesy Chicken Alfredo on Penne menu: green salad veggie tray for a starter Pumpkin Dump Cake for dessert So bread or not? Cheesey garlic or just sliced & buttered? Do you have a better idea? | ||

I'd go with the garlic bread but omit any cheese on it, unless its a light sprinkle of parmesan. There's enough cheese in the alfredo sauce. Incidentally, the whole menu sounds yummy. There's a lot of carbs in the meal but whenever I have company I usually offer bread -- people often expect it. If I were making the meal for just us I would forego bread. If you want to go to the trouble to do cheesy garlic go ahead and do it -- but I think just a good sliced bakery loaf with butter on the table to spread or not would be fine. Martha | ||||

I am a real bread person but would prefer the garlic bread with no cheese added. You menu does indeed sound very good. | ||||

Another vote for garlic bread, no cheese. I would also look at grilled bread with olive oil and fresh minced garlic no butter. | ||||

Everything sounds wonderful except for the pumpkin dessert. Might there be someone in your group who detests pumpkin anything (that would be me)? I would simply pass on the dessert. As for the bread, either way would be good. But if you want "easy," go with the freshly sliced sourdough bread. | ||||

Thank you. You're the best. I love bread, but try not to overdo & it just sounded like a little much to me. The sliced grilled loaf is a great idea. As for the recipe, I put it on Pinterest: Calico Mermaid I'll also making some brownies for the non-pumpkin types. At our quilt shop, we've been having a Friday sewing night from 5 to midnight once a month. At first it was a potluck, but many come straight from work (like me) & were picking up random grocery store items that didn't make much of a meal. So now my husband & I prepare the meal, charge a little extra to cover costs & everyone looks forward to it instead of dreading having to bring something. It's a great opportunity to try new recipes. I need to prepare it ahead so my husband can just bring everything from home for me & we put it together or bake it at the shop. Back in the summer we had a similar Breakfast Club which was fun, too. My choices would be either the garlic bread no cheese or breadsticks. Even tho the no cheese garlic bread would be my choice regardless of dietary limitatations, consider those that might be lactose intolerant. That would be a lot of cheese for them if you add it to the garlic bread. | |||

You're the best. Dinner was great. We had lightly garlicky buttered French bread & it was wonderful. | |||
