Block party on August 4. It was pretty boring last year wo any games. People didn't stay that long. This year's invite says it's from 3-midnight with a bonfire when it gets dark.

Any ideas for some fund kiddie, teen and adult games? It will be on a dead-end street; one side of the street is a corner lot and his backyard runs parallel to the street. The other side has homes with their front yards and driveway part of the party.
They had bean bag toss last year for adults with people just randomly playing. But only one set for 50 people. They had a Bouncey cage for kids. (or whatever you call it) Smile

Ideas I had: 3-legged race for each category of people, cherry pit spitting contest, balloon toss. I wish the one neighbor would put up his volleyball net he says he has. But, it's not my yard. Frown It's always fun to watch if you don't play.

For older adults that might want to sit down...do a commercial jingle/tag line ID.
Like..."good to the last drop"....Maxwell House Coffee.
"A little dab will do you"...brylcream
"Can't eat just one"....Lay's

Dodge ball for the kids. Use a rubber ball like a soccer ball. Wear their tails out!

Set up some card tables with checkers, chess, card games. Make everyone change tables every so often...play a new/different game.

Softball in the street for the kids?...with nerf balls.

My DHubbys brothers family plays games all the time.I enjoy visiting them. They have 2DD ages 10 & 12 now.We spent time a few weeks ago with them at their beach house. We played Ladder Toss, game for outside at Walmart for 19.00.Bought it myself when we came home.So much fun, especially if you talk smack,we do and it's even funnier. Also the Apples to Apples game. There is a kids version and an adult version. We still pay the kids game and have lots of fun with it.Pictuary is fun too.We play it too, sometimes without kids Wink,Hilarious by the way.
card games like war, spoons, rummy and poker are all good too.
Sounds like you are going to have a great time.

jackie - i thought it was funny...no offense taken. ???

ga.karen- I just might get some oranges. We're not a "close" neighborhood yet. I'm sure we would be after that activity. Smile

Nance, good for you for hosting the neighborhood get-together AND for thinking about games to play!

Okay, get a Twister game and start that one going... chalk marks on the driveway for Hop-Scotch - each square with a special prize! Keep going with a "Marbles" field - play "pots" (where someone gets to take the other players' best marble). Backing up, give each player a "fun" bag - some with marbles, some with cards and some with poker chips. Divide the groups according to interests - you might be surprised...

We all seem to think that it is only about food - not so - just need to get everyone involved. Besides the above, get a basketball game going, card game and Twister for those individuals who are flexible but not athletic. Spread out the games - and don't forget a Quiz Bowl for those who might feel left out. Run all of the games at the same time - 45 minutes at most.

Then everyone will come back to the BY - happy - ready to enjoy dinner with their new friends. Cool

Bocce and Croquet - You can find used sets at thrift stores if need be. Both kids and adults will enjoy it.

Also:
Street hockey
Soccer
Stickball (do kids play that anymore?) or whiffle ball
Kick the can

Nance - Completely off topic, but over on the Real Estate boards we were wondering how your trip to Charleston and Savannah went. Check in and give us an update, inquiring minds want to know. Big Grin

Charades - ask everyone who arrives to put three or four movie titles (TV shows, book titles, song titles, etc.) on each of 3-4 slips of paper. Divide into 2 teams, draw a slip of paper and your team contemplates how to act out the title for the other team to guess.
Played this awhile back along with some libations and by the time they drew titles I'd submitted I'd forgotten what I'd put down.

I dug our old "Pokeno" game out of the garage, and our family has been having a blast playing it! It's like bingo---but with a deck of cards. We play for pennies----three bowls----bingo 2 cents----middle 2 cents----and 4 corners---3 cents. Everyone puts their money in & has a chance to win! We had 6 y/o to 79 y/o playing and loved it! Two people went out trying to buy the game----and only found it at Toys R Us. It was only $11----well worth it!

As others have mentioned, any type of charades can be fun for all ages.
