My son-in-law requested a peanut butter cake for his birthday celebration. I've never eaten peanut butter cake, much less made one. Anyone got a reliable recipe they'd care to share? Thanks! This message has been edited. Last edited by: wildcatmom, ~karen

Peanut butter cake to my family is a yellow cake with peanut butter frosting. No written recipe. You can use a mix or your favorite from scratch yellow cake recipe. For the frosting, I never measure. I just make it from confectioners sugar, butter or margarine, and peanut butter. I just dump it all and mix till its right.

I don't have a recipe to recommend, but I have one I wouldn't. Paula Deen's. ugh To my regret, I baked one despite the so-so reviews it had. It turned out dust dry, which is the exact complaint at least 1/3 of the reviewers made. Thinking about it later on, I decided that's the thing I have against peanut butter cookies. They taste dry to me too, so it may have something to do with peanut butter after it's baked? I would do as Becky does... Stick to PB frosting on a neutral flavored cake.

I agree that peanut butter frosting on a white, yellow or, even better...CHOCOLATE cake... is the way to go. What better combo on the planet then chocolate and peanut butter?! BTW, if you agree that chocolate cake is perfect, then consider the old fashioned, dense, moist chocolate mayonnaise cake w/ peanut butter frosting. I am salivating thinking about it.

If peanut butter cake and frosting is still your goal, I found this highly rated recipe that has mixed reviews tho some say it came out "moist". Perhaps those that claimed it was dry baked it too long (?). http://www.tasteofhome.com/Rec...e-Peanut-Butter-Cake I found this pg. for peanut butter bundt cake after adding "sour cream" to my search. Everything tends to be richer and moister when sour cream is added. Here's the recipe w/ pic and frosting. Sounds deeeeeelish. I copied it myself. http://www.babettebakes.com/20...ream-bundt-cake.htmlThis message has been edited. Last edited by: Froo Froo,

That was exactly my thought when I read the Deen reviews. But I'm an experienced baker... Been at it for 50 years. "Surely", I thought, "I can make this cake taste great." Uh-uh. Didn't happen. Some recipes are just duds.

My search found many online recipes with a variety of reviews Ended up going the route that amended a buttsr cake mix. It was pretty good, but the 1st attempt sank in the middle, surely because i was trying to keep it from being dry. Was tempted to fill the hollow with grape jelly but wasn't sure my SIL would appreciate my humor. I think I would have preferred the cake with chocolate frosting, or perhaps the other way around, and frost a rich chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. At any rate, it wasn't for me, but for Tim, and he enjoyed having something different. ~karen
