Okay - new direction. Smile

Back in the day I worked at the home office of a large corporation that had a killer cafeteria. The had several dishes that were favorites by a good number of employees.

One thing they served for small lunceons in the executive dining room was their lobster bisque. Absolutely outstanding - best I've ever had.

One dish that was served routinely in the employee dining room was the LICOVA special - Toast with crisp bacon, sliced tomatoes and hot cheese sauce - Really Yummy dish. Looking back it would be something of a Welsh Rarebit but with added tomatoes and bacon.

What are your odd ball favorites?

Well, I wouldn't call it weird, but a special treat is breakfast fried rice made with bacon rather than other proteins. Includes bad for you ingredients, though, so I rarely make it.

Hello Charming.

I don't think it is weird, but DBIL does. DH and I eat our leidsa cheese on raisin buns, bread or cinnamon raisin bread. It totally freaks DBIL out, don't know why. It is delicious. And as far as the LICOVA special, while in HomeEc, we didn't turn our grocery list in to the teacher and she told us a good cook could always come up with something. So my team and I toasted some bread, fried some bacon, and put cheddar cheese on it stuck it in the broiler and served to the other team. I don't remember what they made, but it didn't come close to our sandwich. Come to think of it, it was a lettuce and tomatoe salad with vinegar and oil dressing. I would always pick bacon over lettuce and tomatoe unless of course it is in my bacon sandwich.

Save Planet Earth, it is the only Planet with chocolate!!

I've thought about this overnight and still can't think of anything weird...give me a bit more time.

However, my dad's favorite sandwich fits the weird category IMHO. Peanut butter carefully smeared on one piece of bread. Miracle Whip salad dressing on another slice. By carefully, I mean spread to the very edge. Then he'd slap a thick slice of red-rind bologna between the two. Don't buy bologna without the red-rind on it. Part of his ritual was peeling the red-rind (plastic paper stuff) off and slipping it between his teeth to get the layer of bologna that stuck to the rind. Only one of the grandkids was brave enough to try it.

DH does think my peanut butter toast (toasted bread with peanut butter smeared on while still hot and the PB sorta melts into the toast) is weird. But I don't. DM served it to us with oatmeal...a bit of protein with breakfast.

lol

PB gets used for many weird recipes. PB on one slice of bread. Layered with lettuce, sweet pickle relish, and mayo on the other slice of bread. Yep, eaten even when NOT pregnant. : )

I love this too! Yesterday I was really running late so left the house with one of my favorite sandwiches, when my friend picked me up. It is peanut butter, with lettuce and mayo (also butter!) We always had this at home but don't think many people eat it?

Wow, Charming, you don't have much PB sandwich experience! I have been eating the PB, lettuce, mayo sandwich for at least 70 years!

Well, I'm an inexperienced PB eater, too. My PB weirdness only extends to a PB, banana and nutella sandwich. But then, we didn't have peanut butter in the house while growing up either. The only time I remember it was when Mama made it from home grown and roasted peanuts.

Count me in as one of the PB mayo crowd. I don't do it so much any more but as a kid, yeah, nearly every time.

other than that I don't think I do anything weird.

I'm trying to eat more brown bread. I told my friend I had a hard time switching from the white bread that I was raised with. She told me to spread some mashed avocado on a slice of toasted whole wheat bread and sprinkle it with pepper. It's delicious. I have no trouble eating it that way.

DH likes to strip down his banana, leaving the skin attached at the very bottom. He then spreads PB over the entire exposed portion of the banana. I find this gross!

DH also likes to put a slice of chocolate cake into a glass and fill it up with milk. He then eats that milk-soaked cake with a fork. Yuck!

We ate lettuce sandwiches when young. It was simply lettuce between two slices of buttered bread.

I still eat peanut butter on my bananas!

Scrambled eggs and instead of a little salt I substitute soy sauce, and I add some very thin pieces of Muenster Cheese which melts into the egg.

After swimming in the bay for several hours as a kid, my cousin and I enjoyed peanut butter and sliced dill pickle sandwiches. Hit the spot. CA Lori - your husband is the first person I've heard of enjoying the choco cake in milk. My stepfather made it for me when I was 5 yrs. old. But, we ate it with a spoon. It is delish, should try it again. :-)
