Took my GSP Bobo to an internal specialist today, and they found a mass on the intestinal wall, which he feels is probably malignant. They will remove as much as possible thru the rectum, and do a biopsy. Hopefully, this will give him some more time before it takes over. More invasive surgery is not an option with him.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope they are able to get all of the malignancy and give him the time that he needs so that you can spoil him.

Goodness, these pet boards are full of sadness today. I'm so so sorry Bo-Peep. I will definitely be saying p*rayers for you & your baby that things end up being better than they seem. I hope your vet can give your baby MUCH more time. Sending t's & p's your way.

I'm beginning to feel like I did the wrong thing, to have the surgery. It was much larger than they originally thought, and they kept him last night to watch him. Because of this, there is greater chance for complications even with the incision healing, never mind if it is malignant or not. At least he was feeling OK and able to run and play before the surgery; now I'm not sure *what* he will be able to do.

Dr. said she would call me today, but I haven't heard anything yet.

BoPeep, I understand your anguish, but don't second guess yourself now. You did what you thought was best and with G*od's help it will all turn out for the better. Just watch him while he is healing and pamper him (as if you weren't going to) Wink
I'm sure with your help, he will be up to his old self in no time at all. If there is nothing else that I've learned about animal's, is that they are resilient!

Yve, thanks for the pep talk. I brought him home yesterday afternoon, and he does seem like his old self! He is not allowed to do any running or jumping or climbing stairs while the stitches heal, and must be on canned food for two weeks! He is also on a stool softener and antibiotic. He is an outside dog, and would be really stressed if I brought him in the house, so I have put him in a smaller kennel with one other dog for company. I've let him out twice now, and he's only "trotting" around the yard, so hopefully these two weeks won't be too hard on either one of us. Biopsy results should be back Monday or Tuesday.

It cost several hundred more than I was anticipating, but I can't second-guess that part of it either.
