My 12-puond pekepoo's wildest dream came true yesterday. We were walking on the path around the duck pond in Girard Park and, as usual, she was charging the ducks and geese. She ran under a bush to capture one and after a second or two I tugged on the leash to get her back. Well, after a few tugs, the leash and collar came back with no dog. For 30 minutes, she was swimming around the pond trying her best to catch the ducks. They weren't one bit worried, but I was in a panic about how to get her out. At one point, she got out on her own but chased another flock and either jumped or accidentally fell back in. And she was in for quite a while. Finally she got tired and paddled over to where I was. A kind young man fished her out for me. I decided to take her to the vet to check for signs of hypothermia since she was still shivering even after being wrapped in her heavy blanket. She got a clean bill of health. She isn't going back to the park until I buy a harness for her! (I overheard one guy in the park say it looked like a nutria in the water!!!!)
So glad that things turned out as well as they did! I'm sure your heart was in your throat the whole time and, yes, a harness sounds like a great idea!
