I have 3 large dogs (1 was recently rescued), until the 3 can manage to get along they all must spend some time in their crates. I need to stuff kongs with treats and we are going through peanut butter very quickly. We are working with a professional on the behavior but I need a recipe for dog biscuits before I go broke buying bags of dog snacks. Mine love the Mother Hubbard peanut treats but as you may know they can get expensive especially when I'm buying bags each week. Any recipes out there?

Here is a recipe I make for my dogs. I have 9 dogs and mnany have medical issues so I need to be watchful of what I make them .

1/2 small 24oz bag Red Mill whole wheat flour **
1/2 small 24oz bag of oat flour **
2 large eggs
1/4 c olive oil or peanut butter
1 -2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
dried parsley
garlic powder
for beef biscuits I use 1 lb boiled stew meat trimmed of fat. For chicken I use 4 whole boneless, skinless boiled chicken breasts SAVE THE BROTH

I throw the meat in a blender or food processor and chop the heck outta the meat. I mix all other ingrediants with the meat, minus the olive oil or peanut butter and add broth till mixture can be rolled out like cookies. I then add the olive oil or peanut butter and mix it well. If dough is too moist I just add a little more of the flours. I then spread out to about 1/4 inch thickness on floured surface and cut and bake. I bake at 325° and check frequently until the biscuits are hard. I then cool and make sure biscuits are crunchy. If they are still too soft I bake a little longer

**For some batches I use rice flour, soy flour, or add some flaxseed flour instead. Some of my puppers at time get constipated and the flaxseed flour helps this. My sons dog is allergic to certain flours so I use soy and rice flour for those. If your dogs have a sensitivity to dairy I omit the cheeses (my sons dog) You can add other things if you like ( I will add shredded carrots or fresh chopped green beans), and I will do that and just make sure the dough is easy to roll out.

Couldn't find my usual pumpkin biscuit recipe, so I pulled this link from allrecipes.com. Pumpkin has always been a HUGE hit at this house, maybe your puppers would enjoy it also.

Why pay money for something you can make at home and be 100% sure what is in them. I do not trust buying dog treats from anyone advertising for them like you tree

HERE IS WHAT I COPIED AND SAVE... BUT HAVEN'T TAKEN TIME TO DO.

Here's a few doggie treat recipes I have, none seem to call for garlic. I got these out of a book I
bought at our local mall bookstore. You might try that for a resource, too.

Bark-B-Q
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup water

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, mix oil, water and
BBQ sauce. Add to dry ingredients. Roll dough to 1/4" thick, cut with cookie cutter, and place on
ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 35 minutes at 375 degrees.

Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

********

Veggiebite
3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup diced celery
1/8 cup diced red bell peppers (optional)
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/2 cup unsalted sunflower kernels
1 1/4 cups water
3 tablespoons olive oil

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix water and oil. Add flour, oatmeal, vegetables, and sunflower
kernels. Kneed dough for 2 - 3 minutes and roll to 1/4" thick. Cut with cookie cutters and place
on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

*******

Howl Wheat

4 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup oatmeal
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons chopped or dried parsley

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine flour, wheat germ, oatmeal and parsley. Add water and oil
to dry ingredients. Knead for 2 - 3 minutes. Roll dough to 1/4" thickness and cut with cookie
cutter. Bake at 375 degrees on an ungreased cookie sheete for 30 minutes or until edges start to
brown.

Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

Another good place is Sheltie Collector's website. She's got some good easy treat recipes for dogs
there.

Don't have any for kitties...sorry! Maybe someone else will.

Sheltie, I don't know where time goes, but I need to make pups cookies. I buy the MilkBone, they don't smell that good, just flour. My pups, and I sure yours, aren't fussy and eat anything - branches, leaves. I copies recipe, sounds good. I like the idea of knowing what they eat. Thank you.
