Well, in the back of my mind, I knew Haystack would try it one day - I was just hoping that she would wait a little bit longer! Try what? The ULTIMATE cat-perching position located about 17 feet above the foyer that is tile on top of concrete - NOT a safe landing place for any cat!

Backing up a bit, we have a two-story house where the foyer is 17 feet below the top of three stairs/landings that lead to the master bedroom, down the hall to the "Cat Condo" (aka the laundry room) and the guest bedroom suite now known as the MC's room which Haystack regularly and persistently violates no matter how much they protest - they have given up and even let Haystack stay during their super-secret MC meetings since they can't get rid of her - but what Haystack did tonight? Eek

Well, the MC's love to hang out on the bannisters - the top ones at the steep ends, most of the others are pretty safe with carpet below BUT does Haystack choose the smaller/shorter bannisters? Of course not!

I was walking down the hall tonight when I saw a blur of fur launch itself, topple this way and that and, finally, right herself on the bannister - then look over to me with a smile as if to say "SEE, I CAN DO IT!" Razz

I stopped mid-step when I saw her suspended in air. Took a while to re-gain my breath - didn't want to startle her with that big drop - so I just sat down in the hallway and tried to call her to me. She got up and danced back and forth on the bannister (while my heart was in my throat) and then, she delicately jumped from the bannister, ran over to my lap - then jumped up again and raced downstairs calling over her shoulder, "chicken!"

Just when I thought there was nothing new for her to do! Razz

I am so glad, monkeymom and everyone else who has responded since my first post on these threads! Smile

Glad you have enjoyed the stories of her adventures - the life of an indoor-only cat is never dull! Cool

Okay, Haystack is sitting here - just dying to get her paws on the keyboard... just hope the mods are on duty tonight! Roll Eyes

"First of all, my name is Haystack and EVERYTHING Mom has said has been greatly exagerated (sp) - hey, I haven't been to school yet so I'm not so good at spelling - BUT I am good at creating excitement! Things are way too quiet here tonight so I have a plan...

What's the plan? NOT TELLING ANY OF YOU 'CAUSE I think you'll post a warning to "her" - so I'm heading to bed, purring all the way (have to made sure I get my 1/3 can of canned catfood) before I put my plan in action!"

HAYSTACK - the one, the only and the original! Cool

Okay, I'm back and see Haystack has been busy mounting her defense BEFORE she mounts her latest offense! Not sure yet what it is but is has to do with clothes??? Apparently she has been dragging some of our laundry out, piling it on and then making a nest. WHY???

Hi Idaho Resident, Sooo very glad I found your story of Haystack this morning,I have to say I couldn't have been more happy.I don't regret one moment of the time I spent. It's just been such a enjoyable day reading about her.It meant a lot to me because Nadia's sister, Jazzy, reminds me of Haystack so much.I have never seen a kitten/cat have such an awe for life as Jazzy has.She is just in love with Everything.I feel she could teach a lot of us a thing or two about finding interest and joy in living life, just being glad to be alive. She is really a Special kitten, to see her love and interest in everything, would change anyone's thoughts about animals or her being "Just a Cat". I'm sorry to say she hasn't had the space to explore all that she would like too, like Haystack has, in the small area I have to keep them. But, she makes the best of what she has.I do see a little depression in all of them from time to time when I see them look out the window and want to go outside , but she is always the first to jump down and go find something to entertain herself with. They are so easy to please and just so loving,I truly hope I will find someone like you to adopt them.I'll never give up hope... I appreciate the time and love you have given for your babies.

Didn't really want to post this post but, honesty comes first on this board, right? And I feel obligated to post the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth re Haystack; after all, all of you have shared her story with me this far.

Well, thought there was nothing left for Haystack to do new - I was wrong. My last post earlier was that she had started jettisoning herself up and onto the staircase bannister which left my heart in my throat. But she balanced beautifully, did a few ballet moves and jumped down; did it over and over again to perfect her style!

Until tonight. She over-shot, up, over and beyond the second floor bannister and came down on the first floor - landing on all fours. I spent the next four hours checking her out and she is fine. Myself, not so much ....

But have to laugh - she hasn't even given the bannisters a fleeting glance since then, much less trying to jump on them! She said to tell all of you that she may be fool-hardy and full of herself BUT she's not stupid! No more diving off the second story bannisters UNLESS one of you want to buy her a parachute! Cool
