I am catsitting my daughters cat for the weekend. The cat has been here several times before. But this time, when she isn't sleeping( she is old and sleeps a lot) she is roaming around the house "crying". I have given her food and there is water in her dish, the litter is clean. She also has her pillow here. She won't sit on my lap or let me pet her. She is driving me crazy! Any idea what I can do to get her to stop "crying"? She is eating all right, no throwing up ect, so I don't think she is sick.
TIA, msmarymac2 |

she is not sick, mary. She is missing her mistress, missing her own home and older cats tend to 'talk' more and more the older they get. I'm not sure there is anything you can really do for her....I think she will be fine. Tell your daughter to hurry home! LOL

A thought...could the cat be in heat? Both of mine acted like that when they were in heat...before I could get them spayed.
Otherwise, I agree with CCM. This is one of the reasons that I have someone come to my home to care for the kitties...instead of them leaving to go elsewhere. Everything is different at your home (no fault of yours Also, if you home is larger than your daughter's home, try closing off some rooms and let kitty "discover" a small number of areas at a time. Got a string or anything like a string? Try taking the stress off of kitty's mind and play with her. Cats usually cannot pass up a chance to attack a string...especially when you're pulling it! I don't know if this suggestion will help...or make things worse but I guess it's worth a try. When she meows...try "talking" back to her (meow like she does) to let her know that you are just as upset about the situation as she is. And don't stress about trying to pick her up. Just allow her to come to you when SHE feels like it...which may or may not happen. She's just missin her momma~ Hope she settles down soon for ya~ Paula "Until one has loved an animal, part of their soul remains unawakened" |

I am assuming she is spayed? If so is she urinating ok. Possibly she could have a UTI from not wanting to use the litter box in a new place? My only other guess would be she is calling for something familiar to come back to her.

My first thought was UTI. But if it started abruptly when she arrived at grandma's house the others may be right. She may be calling for her mom.

Thank you all for your help. She is using the litter box so I don't think itis a UTI. I think you are all right, she just misses my daughter and her own home, even tho she has stayed here with me before.
Daughter will be home Monday night. Thanks againe, msmarymac2 |

msmarymac...I believe you asked us this same question, not too long ago in this threadI'm a bit confused as to why you are asking it again now.
I thought you were going to take care of the cat at his own house where he would feel more comfortable the next time. THis isn't the first time the poor cat has cried incessently when he's been left at your house. Why would you do that again? Poor furbaby is homesick. This message has been edited.
