I have a yorkie that has decided the loveseat I just got is a good place to lift his leg and mark his territory. Does anyone know anything that I can spray or whatever on it to get him to quit? He knows it is bad, as soon as he sees that I found it he runs the other way lol I mop it up but later he will do it again, if not in that spot then right next to it. I sprayed the thing with lysol when I brought it in because someone suggested that but it didn't work. Any ideas are greatly appreciated, I have got to get him to quit!!!

I have a lot more experience with cats but my first advice would be to take your doggy to the vet for a full checkup. If all is fine health wise, then I suspect something is bothering him and he's telling you about it.
Any recent changes in your household? It may not seem much for you but maybe it was enough to bother your little guy. Also, is your yorkie neutered? |

Is he neutered? Try vinegar to clean it.

Thank you both for replying! He is neutered and has been for awhile. I have also talked to the vet about it and it is a behavorial thing. He will do it to a wicker backet if I sit it on the floor. Guess he doesn't like wicker lol
He did it so much we had to pull the carpet up where he would do it next to the furniture. So now I have the hardwood and he is still doing it but only with something that is different. At Christmas he did it on each of my Christmas boxes I got out with my decorations in them. I just don't know why he does it when he knows it is bad, all I have to do is look at him and he tucks his head. When I'm cleaning it you can see he is upset but he will go back and do it again later. The funny thing is, he squats when he goes to the bathroom so it has to be a marking thing because that is the only time he lifts his leg. |

You may want to talk to you vet about meds like Prozac and the likes. Obviously, something is bothering your little guy and trying to find out what it is could take a while.
Good luck! |

"craftybbq," I feel for you! I'm having a similar problem with two recent "foster" Maine Coons we are taking care of for my niece until she gets a home again where she can have them.
Wish I had an answer for you. Ours, too, know they are being "bad" as they run when caught but then do it again just like your Yorkie. The only thing I can suggest is just keep after him and hope the behaviour eventually stops. In the meantime, I know many people on this board have reccommended a product called "Nature's Miracle" that breaks down the enzymes and helps prevent re-marking in the same area. You might give it a try. Good Luck! |
