My son took Foxman for a walk today. Fox was so excited to be out that of course, every inch he covered he had to investigate. AS he got closer to home he decided to get as little to close to some p r i ckly pear cactus and of course had to sniff around...SURPRISE...his little nose got cactied. When he came in My son had to hold him nice and tight while he plucked needles out. He was NOT happy. Once finished he plunged his nose in the water bowl and just laid down practically in the bowl. He never does this. I felt so bad for him...but it was rather funny to watch. Poor FoxmanThis message has been edited. Last edited by: SheltiesMom,
Poor thing. But you are right.. it is funny to picture him with his chin in the water. Hope he is feeling better today.
Oh my - we run the gauntlet of cacti on our daily walks - my guys put their noses down and just don't know how close they are to those things! My Lazy dog tripped DH once on a trail and he went into the jumping cholla! Cactus spines on dog and hubby!
lol junk collector we have a cholla on our front tree lawn with a saguaro next to it. I have a pair of tweezers and needle nose pliers by the freont door because people are always letting their dogs get real close to them. I can hear puppers screaming and owners too
a small plastic comb (like the one the Fonz carried) is good too - it will pull out the loose spines.
The problem with that is the barbs that hook into the skin. Gotta remove very carefully or they tear the skin or in this case nose up
right - but for those moments when you brush up against one and the barbs are in your clothes (or fur) without being imbedded. Usually when I get stuck it is when I'm trying to brush the loose spines off clothing.
we now carry needle nose pliers with us in our packs if we're out. If it isn't cacti, it's the goatheads
very true junk collector Heavy packing tape placed over the needles and removed works well as a layer of elmers glue left to dry and then pulled off works great
Poor baby! That must have hurt, their noses are sooo sensitive!
My older German Shepherd decided to run through a part of the yard that wasn't cut last week. He went in a large area of six foot Spanish Needle plants. When I called him back he must have had a few HUNDRED sticky seeds on him. I had to stand there and pick every one of those tiny things off.
He just looked at me like...whaaaa??

I took Fox out this evening for a walk. He did sniff around a lot, barked at the trees and bushes but steered himself so far away from the cacsus area I had to laugh. He kept looking at the cactus and was walking VERY fast to get past them. I guess he learned quickly from his last painful experience
Awwww....poor baby! I'm glad he's ok and I do have to laugh about him keeping a BIG path around the cactus!
i've gotten some of the *****ly pear spines stuck in my hand & those babies really hurt! poor foxman!!!
